Hi!

I want to have a "clean" tunnel, and not have the parking brake handle between the seats.

I was considering - since the chassis is yet to be cut - in having it also cut lenghtwise (as necessary), covering the original slot, and adding a slot (for a firewall/under-dash mounted parking brake) forward.
Would put some sort of 'tunnel' for the cables to be inside it, and some sort of mechanism/pulley for the 90

That is the most correct for these cars, A 1950 Ford use a very very simular brake handle.

I put one on my dune buggy. I used a 11 inch lever bar on the tunnel out under the nose to pull the monified longer cables, worked so much better.. I have been concidering upgrading my D, It means i woul have use recut a new peace of carpet for the tunnel .

Im not sure if i have enough spare material left to redo that.. but Im thinkin about it..

IF I were you Id also do the early hand wheel heater knob while you have a big enough hole opened up to change it. Use the oil line repair kits to couple and extend your cable tubes forward. Works best if you can cut the knob assy.and forward parts from a old junk tunnel making sure to cut the cable tubes at the shift coupling axcess hole, so they are nice and long. Also take measurements of it and where the shifter are for placement in your car.

At the hand knob end I'd use a drill and saws all to cut out a square beyond the hand wheel shaft when removing it from the junker.

When you install it just cut a oval hole big enough for the shaft in the tunnel and spot weld the square part to the tunnel.
On my VS I was going to bolt it to the 2.5 x 2.5 square steel tubing that also supports the steering column. The lower end wont need much.

The 4 to 1 Lever that the cable needs for easy operation will be a Issue It will be about 11 inches long. The easyest place would be at the tunnel axcess hole forward of the beam.
