I see they state the kit comes without windshields, hinges or any other hardware so "You can customize it yourself". I thinks that means you'll have to srounge up the parts yourself since we don't know where to get them otherwise we'd sell those too.

Honestly, those guys are WAY cool. They're know as "RUSTY TUBS" It's a junk yard in Georga just FULL of 356's. They're a magnet for the cars. Every junked piece of rust and mud finds it's way to them.
They probably ended up with some old molds at an auction or what-not and started splashing body parts. I KNOW that they offer a package to turn genuine rear ended 356 coupes into HALFBREEDS by putting fiberglass rear clips on the remains.
How cool would a rusted tub of a 356 coupe mounted to a shortened Chevy S10 frame (The dealer alumunum wheels are ALL negative off-set and would tuck inside the body, no problem) small block, T-5 trans, high way gearing, with one of their one-piece fiberglass tilt noses be . . . ? ! ? !
When they say customize it yourself, they REALLY mean it ! ! ! They have genuine speedster whidshields on hand, but they're talking about throwing a speedboat wind deflector on it and just hitting the road.
I REALLY like the way that these guys think!

They carry a lot of stuff; I've seen them sell rusty tubs for a lot of $$$.

It looks like, I think if you bought one of their bodies that you could get the brightwork from VS or Beck or someone's CMC extras and use them. Or do as TC suggests and go wild....
Is this a way to do a speedster for cheap? Just a thought from someone without a lot of money to throw around?

Hold the phone boys an girls!
All speedster replica parts don't fit all speedster replicas.....
some do mix and match while others like deck lids and other parts do not. Best not to try and save a buck and get all your basic needs from the same supplier so they do fit correctly without modifications....aka modifications = many additional man hours.
Check the hood in the pic. It should fit flush in the front body opening lip evenly all the way around...it looks a fiberglass ocean.

I talked with RustyTubs before I purchased mine. He purchased the CMC fiberglass molds and will produce bodys as needed. He is very informative about things to do during the build.
My negative comment was that I tried to purchase a build manual from him, and never got it. There was a mix-up with paypal, but other than that, it was fun to talk with him.

I got an authentic 356 conv d top frame from them as well as a newly chromed roadster windshield frame, plus an ivory 400mm steering wheel, all were fairly priced, not to mention the insight they have. I wanted real conv d seats in my IM roadster, and everyone on the site said it can't be done, well rusty tubs sold me a set of roadster seats with precisely measured angle iron, and yup they not only fit but they're great because they're so much more roomy. The conv d top frame and windshield frame are going to go on my speedster to convert it into a roadster, only thing left to do is have them make me a mold of my roadster doors, get the door glass from henry, and I'll have the other roadster I want.

Todd; the build CMC manuals are here in the Library section for you to download for free. Check them out.

Thanks, I purchases the manual before the I knew about Speedsterowners.com.
Been dealing with him for a few years now. He bought some of the CMC molds and parts. Great guy.

I like that.... a "fiberglass ocean". Yeah, cause he owns an ocean of fiberglass and makes just about every kind of mold made for the 356 speedster. He sent me a picture of the differences and also showed me what would interchange and what would not. I had the wrong liner on mine from ebay (for the decklid), and he showed me 3 different kinds, and found the right one. If you see the picture, yeah, its just a skin, and you get to choose one of three inner structures. The one in the picture is not bonded yet to the inner liner. The hoods are so good, they fit real cars, just email them for better pictures. They even use coremat inside it, and no one is doing that! I didn't even know that the real style inner guts existed, unlike my CMC that has a complete inner liner! Down to earth dude, and tells you like it is. They even have molds off of his real speedster...

. . . and I'm a BIG cheerleader for turning junk into gems. Of course, the sad thing is that I've listed it in my "watching" section and may probably place a bid.
I just gotta say, these guys knock me out! Love 'em ! ! !

BTW AL Shapiro has a New Street Beasts - Fiber Fab - CMC
hood available ...
White primer gel coat has a 2" hair line crack on one edge,
it is so slight you have to look for it and can easily be repaired when prepped for painting.

I was in the process of selling my IM speedester and the buyer was in a tizzy because the rear tire was rubbing against the body and he was going to back out of the deal because he was so scared of it. No one local could calm him because they all didn't know anything about the problem. I called Rusty Tubs and immediately he knew exactly what was the source of the problem, he called my body shop for me, explained the issue to them in a matter of 5 minutes. The body shop in turn took Rusty Tubs direction, fixed the problem and I got my sale, it turned out to be a fairly common issue with these, some sort of bushing, but who else could have diagnosed it let alone explain it to a VW novice, made my day! They are literally a wealth of knowledge, in an area that is hard to come by.

Hi Jane
Do you have a picture of your seats installed? I have a spare
seat I wouldn't mind putting in my car but when I measured it
didn't seem like it would work. Thanks in advance.

Jane, are you talking about your recently acquired vanilla colored car? You sold it already?
no, the red speedster, it was an older IM, the tire rubbed terribly against the body. I had no intentions of selling it but this guy came along and had to have it, actually I'm glad I did now, because I got this vanilla one and really like it better.
hey Kurt, talk to ric at rusty tubs, my IM roadster is still in the body shop with the iron slats in place, temporarily sitting there until permenent welds are made, it'll be a monthor so until the car is completely finished, but seriously give Ric a buzz at 678-795-1501, he says absolutely anything I want done to my cars theres a way, and so far he's found a way. good luck

WOW! I was checking in on this auction, just to see if I might not make a play for the "remains." I thought that I might try grafting them to a 356C center horn button housing.

Anyway, it went WAY too high for me. I got one of those rings with my '55 as a spare. It's for an A, not a Pre-A. I figured that it might be worth $50. or so. Looks like I might have gotten a nice extra treat when I bought the car.
If that one went for more than $25 with shipping, mine ought to worth more than I thought . . . Good for me! Here's a quick pic, it was stripped and polished by the previous owner.

Wow, that eBay ad is a freaking hoot. Now I love rusty tubs, too. I'm just glad I;m out of that hobby or they would get all my money.
