It is designed for a Beetle and needs to be shortned for a Speedster but no big deal.
Not only mid engine, but A-arms at both ends. Set up for V-8 engines but I had intended use a 2WD Audi to make it an easy bolt in. Subaru is another good choice being N/S engine and FWD. Front spindles are Cortina MK-III - MK-V or Holden and rear hubs are BMW 525.

I cannot take credit for this and it is the work of Rorty Design in Melbourne. Plans cost 100 AUD or about 80 USD. I have a set and it is well worth the money and you could build your own chassis easily.

One cavaet is that the designer, does not recommend using this shortned frame on a rear engined Speedster - IE grafting the rear torsion tube back to the front section of this chassis. His concern is that it will be too light on the front end, and apparently someone experienced this first hand by going off the road in a corner. I am not sure if this is just normal swing axle Porche going off the road backwards, or if there is a legitimate concern.

I am in Thailand and will not be able to register a car built on a custom chassis or I would do it in a heartbeat using the mid engine design. I can get away with grafting the Beetle rear c/w VIN to my "repaired" pan, but lightness in the front end is my concern.

Another alternative is to use this front end which replaces the entire front axle.
If I could only figure out how to attach a file????

That is a Beetle headboard, and presumably the Speedster one would be speedier looking.

Instructions have the headboard happening early in the chassis construction, but I am going to build the roll bar once the body is sitting on the chassis to optomise the esthetics. Will also incororate a dash hoop and low level side impact bars to give it a bit more rigidity and safety.

I'll happily offer any help I can.
I opted for hoops because the headboard bothered me so much. Safety-wise, the experts say we shouldn't have roll equipment in street cars anyway, so I went with the design which virtually ensures I'll have my unhelmeted gourd dented.
The rest of the metalwork is probably easily copied or taken from, because it's all common materials and easy angles. It worked out very well for me with a rear-mounted engine.
It's not even close to the same technical beauty, but it was pretty inexpensive to do myself -- with a welder-pal's help.

I like the vintage look of hoops and this is a decision down the road a bit. Now I just need to collect all the bits, and get the kit here to Chiangmai.
The CMC kit has a roll bar but I read that it is cosmetic? What crap is that

Like the fuel tank. I understand that CMC requires some mods to the tank, and was thinking about something else. What did you use and is this specific to your frame.

Was thinking of mounting the battery in the front for weight.

Here is Rorty Design for the frame I am thinking about. I do not have the design skills to build a frame myself, and Thai DOT will not allow it anyway. At the very best I can "repair" the front section of my pan and graft on the Beetle rear to recycle the VIN.

I am going to give it a go myself, and should keep me busy for a while which is the entire point of this project.

I have another design for a bolt on front frame section using A-arms. Simply remove the entire beam and bolt on this sub-frame. If I can figure out how to post a pic I would do it.

Do you have pics of your chassis?

That's the same type of cell as I used. I did away with the trunk because I didn't need it for anything and I couldn't make my design work with it still there. The only thing I have left of the CMC is the tunnel, the two-inch box tubing surrounding the pans and only the skin of the body, so my car might not be the best one to compare that chassis design to.
I had to hack the crap of my body to do all this stuff. I wanted something different.
The CMC roll bar is -- my understanding -- cosmetic unless it's welded in. I haven't ever seen one in person; others here will know.

As for uploading the photos ... it was pretty self-guiding when I did it the first time. Click on the "Photos" tab and load away. It'll allow you to put files in under your car by the name you put in the registry, as long as they're not too big. Theron has incorporated software to reduce your file size automatically, but they have to be specific types of files (.jpg works for me) and they have to be relatively small. If your image contains enough data to print it as a poster, you'll want to re-save it as a much smaller size first. There's a step-by-step on how to do that here:

https://www.speedsterowners.com/help/#a1

a1) How do I upload a photo?
1)Select "Photos" on the top menu bar
2)Select Add a Photo
3)A new page will appear with a "Browse" button, click the browse button and select the photo file on your computer.
5)Click the "Upload" button
6)Your photo will begin uploading to the site. The time it takes to upload the photo depends on the speed of your internet connection and the size of the photo being uploaded.
7)Your photos will be stored in a folder which is identical to your user name.

a2) How can I share a photo in the in the forum?
You can share up to 3 photos in a message in the forum.
You can only share photos which you have uploaded to the Photos area.
1)When posting your message, 3 File boxes will be shown on the bottom of the screen.
2)Select the photo you wish to share from one of the 3 boxes.
3)After finishing your message, click Send and the photos will be shown in your post.
Please note: Because the Anything Goes category is posted to all Owner.com sites, photos CAN NOT currently be posted in this category.
