After watching Barrett Jackson auctions for awhile a replica Speedster for $31k+ seems like a bargin to me.....while we are all aware that this is no bargain, all it takes is one guy who really doesn't care it is a "bit" overpriced....

For reference try to buy a new Pontiac Solstice right now and see how many thousands over list price it takes.....I was recently quoted $10k over the full and inflated list plus over $5k in dealer add ons and a dollar a mile to bring it in from upstate NY..... think over $40k.....
Even though the word Porsche is used liberally in the listing, it is clear that the car is a new replica. Even the listing says Replica.

I have mixed feelings about this, even more-so in the last couple of years.

There is a little thing called a search engine (ex. google). Type in "356 speedster" or any variation there-of and you will get to this site, or at least one of the manufacturers. In as little as 5 minutes, someone completely new to the industry can learn the real value. If someone is unwilling to do even the smallest amount of research, then perhaps paying a premium for convenience isn't the worst thing in the world.

My brother-in-law once bought a new Honda Accord, and brought it over to my house just after the purchase. Written on the window sticker was a line item with almost 2 thousand dollars labeled "Dealer Margin". I said "You didn't actually pay that?" His response was, "They told me I had to, and I wanted this color combo."

If it was me, the temp gauge would be for the temperature of my forehead after I paid that much.
But, five years ago that was me. I didn't know a darned thing about these things and paid $16K for my hoopty. Thanks to y'all, I'm a little smarter now and I wouldn't give myself a dollar!
I say that now. It's 30-something degrees out.
Come on spring! I'll forget everything the first time I nose out of the driveway ...
I don't really see what the problem is. The guy is clearly advertising this as a replica - I don't think anybody would confuse it for a "real" speedster. Plenty of people on this site and elsewhere have spent $32K+ - it wouldn't be out of line for an IM. Maybe this car is of similar or - perish the thought - better quality?

If somebody wants to pay $32K for it, so be it. The seller isn't doing anything dishonest here. As for how he responded to you, I don't think we can comment without knowing what you asked. If I were advertising a car for $30K and I got an email from an "expert" telling me it was worth $10K, I might throw a terse response back as well.
"Ted, if the car was an IM it would be a right good price"

We don't really know what the car is though, right? It isn't clear (to me, anyway) who the manufacturer was. It appears to be a Vintage, but who knows? I realize it's blasphamous to say in these parts, but maybe it's an even higher quality car than an IM.

Let the buyer and seller decide these things for themselves. It's not like the car is obviously in very poor condition and on its last legs. It's worth exactly what somebody is willing to pay for it.
Ted, it is not blasphamous to say "even higher quality car than an IM", not a bit. If it is "even higher quality car than an IM" and only has 23 miles on it, then it is probably a good deal at 32K.

It does appear to be perhaps a Vintage but the add hints the car is from a german company, "Custom Coachwork done by Stuttgarter Karosseriewerk Reutter & Co GMBH, Stuttgart, Germany". Perhaps there is a new player in the market.

It is plated as a CA car although it does not have a '57 sticker on the plate, I think that it is not registered in CA.

I believe it to be a Vintage and the seller is trying to capitalize on the recent sales at Barret-Jackson.
"Custom Coachwork done by Stuttgarter Karosseriewerk Reutter & Co GMBH, Stuttgart, Germany"

I was going to point that out, but I suspect this is a case of the seller not knowing what he's looking at. I think it's more likely that VS has put a Reutter badge on the car, and the seller believes it to be legit, than that Reutter has started building replicas. But again, who knows?
