Overrider tubes were started only to meet changing US crash standards. The tubes could be ordered as an option in Europe, but were standard equipment on all cars 57 and after in the US. A few cars built in 56 but delivered in 57 were also fitted with the overrider tubes. In fact, the very first rear overrider tubes were a single bar in the rear. The factory had designed them and made them without regard to the fact that the US license plates were taller and the tube ran across the bottom of the plate. They then went to the two bar and the shine-up licensce plate light to keep the overrider tube from obstructing the officers view of the plate.
For my car to be correct, it would of had to be one of those transition cars, built in late 56 and delivered in the middle of 57. You can get into being "correct" are just do as you please, while I enjoy the history and the differences it would never bother me to see any mix of detail on a replica.
