Hi, I'm the owner of a beautiful Chesil Speeder Replica based in the UK. Does anyone know if it's possible to switch out my current manual gearbox for an autobox?? And, if so, anyone in the UK who can do the job. Thanks very much. Simon.

As a best guess, you would have to find an automatic transmission from a type 3 or type 4 VW somewhere over there (they are rare, here in the US). I would avoid the older version (automatic stick shift) as it is a 2-speed (and kind of Hokey, too, as you still have to shift it) whereas the fully automatic is a 3-speed, no shifting.
The Type 3 should bolt right in but I'm not sure about the Type 4 version.
Or you could talk with Chesil about an electric conversion.
The VW options I know about- the Beetle did have a semi- automatic transaxle (you shifted with the stick but there is no clutch) available that fits between the frame horns, although finding one in decent running order may prove challenging and finding repair parts may prove even harder. There is a full automatic from the type 3's (there are repair parts available) but I believe the frame horns will need to be modified for it to fit. There is also a bus (type 4) unit- again, I think the frame horns will need work but I believe there are repair parts available.
For non-VW possibilities- these guys may know https://www.transaxleengineering.com/ As to who can do it- I'm Canadian so I'm of no use to you there.
Hope this helps
@Simon Long IRS or swing axle? That helps to know.
Subarugears produces an automatic subaru if it fits.
