Finally hooked up w/ Cory and Hoopty this PM, and learned a little bit more about the "project", first hand. What can I say that hasn't been said? This labor of love called a Speedster looks all business up close and personal. I can report all systems seem ready to rip. After a couple of fish-tails in the parking lot, and a few quick turns around a couple of lamp posts, Cory figured maybe I could get us down the road and back, and so off we went, taking in a few back roads in Howard and Montgomery Co. Worked up quite an appetite (and thirst) in the process and so took care of both at a local tavern, then managed to find our way back in the dark, with only two full-scale brake tests. What a hoot. Aside from the look of this creation -- and all eyes on the SOC Forum will know by now what that is -- the tight steering tells you this is a quick driving car. That and the engine, which is a welcome, if noisy, companion in the cockpit with you, explains all you need to know through the seat of your pants. Said engine makes easy turns to an owner imposed break-in limit of 5K. Pul-lenty of tug in this range, not to worry. Half the fun was watching the people watch the car while we were tending to the aforementioned thirst and hunger. The spectacle that is Hoopty is something that few can see and not stop for a closer look. The exhaust, while not REALLY loud, does announce its presence, in case you might not have been looking.

Cory: it was a very nice ride, MGM, and thanks for the extended turn at the wheel. I look forward to many more. When I get my car on the road (can't be too soon), we will have to map out all the proper twisties in the neighborhood. Not to mention all the various taverns . . .

Kelly,
I'm glad to hear you guys finally caught up! I talked to Cory today before hand, we were kinda hoping to meet up this weekend, things didn't line up. He mentioned you wanted to see a "real" speedster (one that is from this planet and doesn't require a jet pilots license), we're hoping to meet up for a cruise in the next week or so and you're more than welcome to take my little pea shooter for a slow roll down the road. As soon as I get my schedule figured out I'll let Cory know and maybe we can catch up? You can drive my car and I'll drive Hoopty and Cory can sit in the bar and bite his nails wondering "Where could these guys be for 3 hours?"

That car is AWESOME isn't it!?
Kelly, that was a hoot!
No major damage to report, either. We did burn a full quart of oil -- now handled -- and those brakes are now worn in properly. Good times!
Mick, you bet. As a result of trades and swaps, I'm working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week. I should be off almost all of next week. Hope that works out.
Lane, I hope you're up to driving this crate on part of the Trek. I don't want to be the sucker who runs out of gas. Better that you be driving when that happens ... lol
Man, but this driving business is fun. Once again, to all of you out there who helped to keep the 'Projekt' alive last year, THANK YOU.
Very much worth it. Very nice also to be able to share it with like-minded folks.
