ok,most of you know that the chromed pieces of our speedster are real crap.
How crappy are they?
well,I am a pro chrome-plater and have seen a lot of cheap parts in the past, but nothing can beat the parts of my speedster.
There is absolute almost no nickel on it and no copper either.

my speedster is still brand new and the chome plated parts were already rusty on the inside,so I gave it an examination.

Conclusion: when you buy a new speedster or want to replace the parts, take the parts and bring them to a Good plater. It will cost some money but if you don't it will cost you more in the future.

the replica parts only receive what we call a flash, this means that there is less than 5 micron of nickel on it.
the standard in restoration is 20 to 50 micron of nickel and at least 25 micron of copper.

your speedster will not only look better, the parts will last much longer

I did the job this week, cost for hubcaps, lichts, front grills,... would be aprox 500 bucks,Done the old-fashioned high standard way.

That's great to know; why don't you post your contact info for the benefit of everyone? Last weekend on Trucks (on Spike TV) they presented a pro chrome shop in Tennessee and I was surprised at the amount of hard work it takes to do a pro job.

I don't know if you noticed but also the Brazilian Mangel wheels that come standard in our cars have pretty shoddy chrome. I try to preserve mine by waxing all the time but I know rust will get them sooner or later. As you say the best bet is to redo the chrome right and forget about it.

Also, about the Aero style mirrors, if you want to re-chrome them how do you take the mirror themselves off the assembly?
yes,I admit that plating can be very expensive.
BUT, I just finished putting the replated pieces back on the car.
and I have to say,it looks stunning compared to the orignal plating.

now just a little bit of sunshine and we can roll
