Has anyone purchased a care from Raul at Clasicos autos in Mexico. He says he imports to the US. I am getting serious about a coupe. He makes them. They are slightly less expensive than JPS the ones will produce. Obvioulsy, I am little goosey about buying from a Mexican manufacturer especially about registering, insuring and financing it. He sent me some pics. I tried to upload them but I don't think they attached. My geek skills are a little lacking. Someone email me and I will forward the pics to them and they can post them. Its a sweet little car.

I guess if you get a kit from him to put it on a US Bug you won't have any problem. The thing is he builds his turnkeys mostly on new VW of Mexico pans and those will give you a headache if you try to register them in the US. He can also build your turnkey on an owner supplied pan; if that's the case maybe you can get a US registered Bug across the border into Mexico; get him to work on it and just bring it back. As long as it's an older model already registered in the US you shouldn't have any problem. If I had the choice I'd just buy the full kit from him and get it assembled in the US.
There are people on SO talk that are familiar with Raul's products. It is not clear what your intentions are - to purchase a kit or a turnkey. The answers may be different depending on what you want to do. There are also transportation and importation issues associated with buying from Mexico. Finally, none of the assemblers have made many replica coupes so they are not as mature a product as the Speedsters are. I think you should do more research before letting your enthusiasm take hold of your decision and pocketbook. Just my two pesos worth.
I don't think I'll risk that investment on a Mexican manufacturer. The pics are nice though. I wish I could figure out how to post them. I wouldn't dream of driving a car I built. It wouldn't be safe --guaranteed! So I am interested in a turnkey. JPS is making one beginning this Spring probably using the same fiberglass bodies as Clasicos and for only a FEW pesos more (about $2,500). John told me he ordered the bodies from Mexico. JPS has excellent ratings for its owners on this site so I am sure their coupe will be outstanding too. So I'm seriously considering the purchase.
