Well fellow Speedie owners, Chris, Kathy and I (and the two Jack Russells, too!) all went to New Hampshire (on Mother's Day, yet) and brought home Joanne's never-been-started CMC kit, complete with a Super Beetle rolling chassis AND Super-beetle conversion kit.

The kit was bought in 1988 with just about every option available except for that silly Whale tail, and the buyer never got around to building it. He's now moving to Florida and wanted to sell the kit and get it out of the garage (where's it's taken up an entire side for 20 years) so he can sell the house. Part of the deal was that we would remove it all in one day before June 1'st (no problem, there - Chris and both have a pickup and trailer each) and then clean the garage (which took all of about 15 minutes - mostly acorns discarded by the mouse neighborhood which had taken up residence in the crate before they got a couple of cats).

The kit is in terrific shape (Hell! It's still in the shipping crate!!) and everything is there!! He even got a lot of parts that were promised to me from CMC on my kit but never got delivered....like defroster vents!! It's even got a Beck-like heater Aux blower and a pair of Stainless Steel heater boxes!! (with the big heat sinks inside, too!) Kathy and Chris would keep bringing things out of the garage and say "What's this?" and I would say "That's a so-and-so...put it with THAT pile" and we quickly organized it for storage back home. Other things that I never got but were in this kit were the fiberglass boxes for around the hood hinges, the chrome bumper and side trim, the better seat glides and a full set of black-faced gauges (OK, so they're not 356 Repros, but they're all SW's and are brand-new!!) It even has a decent radio with power antenna!!

The kit is better than great, the chassis is useable (with a '73 engine and transmission, too!), the price was right, it was only about an hour from home and the seller was as happy to see it go as we were to go get it.

Looks like Chris and I'll have something to do this Winter......

I'll try to get some pictures posted tomorrow - trying to get Pearl running again before leaving for Carlisle and now have pieces all over the garage..
