Does anyone have any experience with Classic Speedsters in Hyannis, MA? My search began when I came upon a dealer in Newport, CA that sold Vintage Speedsters. Beautiful fit and finish, great drive. Living in Massachusetts, I found a local builder named "Classic Speedsters". Claims to be paired in some way with Vintage in California. I drove one of his 1900cc cars last night. He claimed a 13.5 second QUARTER mile and 135 hp prior to my driving it. After my test drive, I was extremely disappointed. It was a little faster than the 1600cc dual carb example I drove from Vintage, maybe about 13.5 seconds to 60mph. Fit and finish was alright. Admittedly he was not done with the car, and perhaps after a final cleaning and complete trim assembly it may have looked better, however, the quality of the components (rear view mirror chrome quality, for example) just didn't match up to my recollection of Vintage. Anyone out there that can shed some light or render some advice would really make my day, and my dilemma alot easier. Thanks.

I used to live in Mass. before moving to Rhode Island, and I've talked with several people who've been over to the Hyannis place to see what they've got. None of them were particularly impressed, either with their product examples, their product knowlege or service/support capabilities. Unfortunately, as we've all found out, there really aren't many competent Speedster builders or sales/service places in New England, so you tend to be on your own or work with the folks on the West Coast, but then, service is still an issue.

I have not personally been to Classic in Hyannis, but only live a couple of hours away and might be talked into a field trip (could visit some friends in Centerville along the way).

Let me know if I can be of help.....Gordon
Classic Speedsters = STAY AWAY unless you want a light wallet and a big headache!!!!

Bill S. resells Vintage cars. He is at best a mechanic that can work on big block, 60's iron. Most of his speedster mechanic work is done by other people. He has had three locations in three years - Wareham, Bourne, and now Hyannis. Call the Better Business Bureau and you'll get an very long dossier - none good. He claimed to "know the ropes" on getting a speedster registered in MA. After four months and no progress, I found this board and with the help of the members used US Title to do it myself. Send me an email if you want to know more.
