M.E.K. is a great cleaner (we use it in our glue www.mend-it.com) but make sure you don't have rubber parts involved, it will destroy them.
I use "Gum-Out" carb cleaner. No idea what's in it, but it works well.....
x2 on Gum-Out.
I use Gumout for all kinds of stuff. I spray it on both the chain and deraileurs on my bike to clean them before I oil them, on mowers and snow blowers to degrease the carbs (inside and out), to remove sharpie ink when used to mark sheet metal for bends, to remove grease and tar goop from my cars, a whole bunch of stuff. You need to be a little careful how you use it, but it's pretty versatile stuff. Handy to use, too.
Boothy! Good show at the Endicott Estate tomorrow...........
X 3 Gordon......
Thanks all!!!! I'll Gumout the beyatches.
Hey Gordon, was wondering about that. See if I can get out there. Weather isn't looking positive.
Not sure I would use it to clean carbs, but do any of you use Ed's Red? Make it yourself with equal parts ATF, Kerosene, Acetone and Mineral Spirits.
I make a batch about once a year and use it to clean my guns after a trip to the range.
I make something similar, but delete the Kerosene and mineral spirits and use it strictly as a potent penetrating oil of ATF with an Acetone thinner. Have it in a spray bottle as well as a small squeeze applicator and use it on all kinds of stuff.
ATF is good stuff!
Do you ever use old brake fluid to strip paint?
Not personally, but I've heard that it works quickly and may or may not eat into the primer. Either way, it's nasty stuff. You have to clean the BeJeezus out of the metal base if it has had brake fluid on it before re-painting.
Not sure, but I suspect that it will eat through lacquer, too.
You would think that the brilliant minds of the Automotive industry would come up with something less caustic (like DOT-5 silicone oil?) for us to use......
