I have the normal dual oval air filters that pretty much everyone has with Webers, and I know that they can be cleaned periodically, rather than just replaced. Anybody know how to do that properly?

I've been using K&N filters for 35 years. I met the family, they gave me a filter for my dirt bike and I tried it. Been using them since that time.

Although the K & N cleaner is nice, it's also expensive so, I found out about 25 years ago that you can use a 50/50 mix of Formula 409 and it actually works better than their product.

squirt on the 409, use an old tooth brush and brush up and down on the pleats. Rinse from the inside of the filter to the outside, never from the outside to the inside.

I usually play windmill with my arms to cause the excess water to be flung off the filters. Once they are throroughly dry, either use the squirt bottle of their oil or their spray oil and """LIGHTLY"" coat each pleat. Don't over soak the material as the oil will "wick" throughout the filter. Once the oil has settled, wipe off any residue and re-install.
Gordon,
ONCE A YEAR ???? Man, you should never move to the West. Out here if there isn't dirt or sand in the air we think someone just removed the oxygen from the planet. Our problem comes from the wind. Colorado has NO WIND ... Wyoming blows and New Mexico sucks! We are stuck in the middle.

'nuff said.

Happy filter cleaning,
Dusty
They were not K&N but some Chinese knockoffs......actually said made in Brazil on them. I bought the K& N recharge kit and the guy at Kragen said, spray them with the cleaner then run "hot" water inside out. Spray again until the water coming out is clean. Dry in the sun for a couple hours and then take the recharge "oil" in the kit (kit is $14.00) and spray till they have a red tint of the oil. Supposedly charges the filter element to pick up dust. Seems to work fine.
