In my experience, they're all about the same.
Kinda figured.

Check with Greg Leach at Vintage Motorcars. If I remember correctly their clutch & throttle cables are beefier than the standard cables. @Vintage Motorcars Inc
Installing the cables with ample grease and is the long term fix.
I also put a polyethylene tube inside each of the metal tubes to make things more slippery. That probably means, with the reduced inside diameter, one can't push a shortened cable through with the end fitting attached.
The empi/ bugpack buggy cables come with a plastic tube.
I think an early 911 cable is a much thicker cable, and from what I know, that is what I have. Other than that though I have no other info on cabling.
Worth looking into.

The old VS (Kirk) used to sell cables the right length for our needs (shorter than a standard VW cable). Maybe Greg (at VM) does the same?
Also, if you have to pull the pedals anyway, now might be a good time to consider a modified pedal set, with a roller fitting to replace the clutch cable hook. This uses standard cables, but eliminates a common wear point on the pedal assembly that's hidden inside the tunnel:

I'm considering going with a 356 pedal set.

That would certainly be original but then you need to put in an angle floor board.
IM does the angle floor boad thing but with slots and uses standard VW pedals but the top of the pedal is made to fit a P rubber pad. Just saying that there are 50 ways :

Yes, he does. I believe he sells on Ebay too. I got a spare clutch cable from him there.

I actually managed to finagle some P pads on the standard VW pedals; they have worked for me for many years.
The pedal boards shouldn't be difficult to make.
