clutch cable

just looking for some comments/thoughts.
went to adjust the clutch cable ( cmc)at the trans end, winged nut.
i see the cable has been shortened and three cable clamps attached to "splice" together.
is this standard?
is a one piece cable avaiable? or can i make one?

Carey Hines, from Special Edition makes a nice one piece cable made of heavy duty cable. I would contact him.

The splice is "normal" abot 30% of the time on here (mabe a bit more). It's kinda hokey, but if done right it can last for years.

A proper-length cable is available from all of the manufacturers. Lots of people use the cable from Vintage Speedsters or Beck. Depends on preference and what you have for a car now.

Been running a "three-cable clamp" clutch cable for near 8 years with no ill effects. Advantage is I can use a stock VW cable (very cheap and very available) and just coil up what I don't need and tie it out of the way. You DO have to know how to install cable clamps. "Never saddle a dead horse".

As David says a lot of people use the clamps and just shorten it up. I installed a short unit from Vintage (since my car is from there) but just chose to buy a regular replacement cable to have as a spare. When the one in there breaks I'll just clamp it up and go.
