Thought the clutch cable broke on my 2000 mile VS had broken. Applied the clutch pedal and it went to the floor. Turns out the arm on the cross shaft broke, the one you thred the cable through, and secure with the wing nut. My mechanic who has been working on Air cooled VW's for 40 years said he has never seen one break. Now to find a replacement.

don't know how lower statement got in there it refers to a 356 convert we had in 1973
$11 from JEGS. At least it wasn't the throw out bearing fork inside the bell housing. You should be able to fix it without removing engine.

There are different lengths and bends though. Your's is probably swing axle and one shown is IRS.
You can buy a cheap, Asian replacement from JEGs , or you can get a used German one from Bugcity.com.
Guess which one will last longer?
Call the guys at Bug City. You will get a human being behind the parts counter. Tell him what your problem is and ask him to help. They'll fix you right up. If you're careful by holding the throw-out shaft in place, you can pull what's left of the old lever off and push the new one on and tap the keeper pin in without losing the shaft into the bell housing too far. It's not as hard as it sounds.....
found a used original bug part . Hopefully will go in tomorrow, the old one came off without moving the throw out shaft.
Excellent!
I've heard of a lead foot on the gas, you must have a lead foot on your clutch.
I purchased one of these... nice.
@Lfepardo, I purchased one too. I haven't installed it yet. I am concerned about how difficult the installation will be with the transmission in the car with all the stuff in the way.
fixed and no problem with the cross shaft. so all is well.
