Can someone please post the length of a clutch cable that would fit a 1968 beetle?  I have ended up with two spare cables and they are different lengths!

Second. I believe that there is no difference in length with either a Type I or a Type IV engine on a Bug pan.  Can someone comment on that?

Many thanks!

Cable is easily shortened by making a loop at the transmission end and clamping it with a cable clamp. Mine was like that for the first 33 years of its life. One little clamp. When i replaced the cable I had to cut it, and I put four clamps across the cut ends. 10 months so far and it seems to be holding up fine.

All this talk about "shortening kits" and swage welding and "have your sailboat rigger make you one, like I did" (see several other threads) frightens and confuses me.

Come on guys, we're not driving crappy old dune buggies here.  We're driving beautifully crafted Porsche automobiles, and they deserve the best.  All cables should be perfect, with custom fabricated ends.

How embarrassing would it be to have your fellow Porsche aficionados look under your car, at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and see a butchered-up clutch cable?

The number of points lost for that faux pas would be staggering.

Get TWO of these, p/n 113721335AG

The Bug City cables are really good and they cost about $12 each including shipping.  Get one for a spare.

Here's their site:

And then, get a sailboat rigger to shorten it to 77" overall, from the top of the loop end to the end of the stud on the other end.  That should work on CMC, JPS and Vs for sure, not sure about IM and Beck.
