I would either use a razor knoef to cut along the shifter mounting plate or a sewing marker to markey then cut it with you wifes best sheers.(then when she says somethen about them not working as good as they used to, just tell her to go buy some new ones they dont last forever, and then you can have those) also check to be sure the shift buishing is greezzed up nicely on the shaft,I use synthetic greezzee as it dosent dry out&DONT GET HARD IN THE WINTER!! oops wasent yellen ,big  fingers& bad joints.

I made the mistake of usin a special greezzee on my wiper assy on my bug, it's some expensive slipery stuff, but when cold gets way to thick&stickey,my wipers wont hardly work. (thats when I started thinken about what greezzee to use where for all temp usage)

might be as simple as "new kid" doing the carpet just elit it & put the shifter in the hole&buzed in the bolts, and there is carpet in the socket or something else simple.I know mine is extreamly hard to shift in the 356 I just got , but it,s a 93 and never finished so it could be any thing, just have it gone over and put it out of your mind after the first week of good driving and you will be just fine.

Still sorting some things, brake line is leaking but VS sent a new one just got tied up and need to get it done.  Bigger MC is making the car stop great.  Still have a list to do but much much shorter.  Oil leaks are fixed and clutch adjusted but to answer the question...no i have not figured it out yet.  I have been going to one shop to do a few things and last will be transmission, clutch, shifter check.  It is driveable for sure and i have hit the 310 mile mark.  But still need looked at.  Engine is breaking jn well...going to be putting in larger main jets as well and had to do some carb adjusting but overall feels pretty good.

Going to add camber compensator and sway bar to stiffen it up in the next two weeks.

First cars and coffee tomorrow am so very excited to be able to drive it!  All in all my sorting is getting completed!
