I have electronic locks on my car- the capibility to lock the car is already there in the mechanism (just like on any car), so no need for holes, etc. I would think any aftermarket alarm installer could do it. A key would have been nice, but really, I like this feature a lot- I can go out to eat with the car, w/o inviting other people to sit in the car, etc.
There was an early post about this and with all of the normal comments about why would you want to lock a convertible someone mentioned electronic lock. This was a good idea, keep the door handles as is but install electronic bolts that would be activated with your alarm system. This would send a dead bolt into a hole making the doors impossible to open.

Quite easy actually some magnetic plungers....
Hey Ron . . . actually I'm looking for a garage to match my door locks to match my car. I REALLY have old door handles that don't work right. I'm looking to replace them with locking ones if I can or the same type if not. But I have no clue what the heck car CMC got them from. That's what I was trying to find out.

Thanks

Joe
1956 round ended handles 0r 1957 square ended handles can be ordered from Stoddards import parts but they are expencive.

A single 1957 ford door lock is a good 50s look, remote lock unit. and it can be tumbled to match vw and porsche keys which will fit in it.

In those days they only put it on the passenger door. Folks back then paralel parked and climbed out the passenger side to stay out of street traffic.

The inner door handles were 2 way, push down to lock and pull up to open. on most cars
Here in Mayberry RFD, the issue isn't someone trying to steal the car, it's friendly admirers "checking it out" while I'm away. I seldom (if ever) lock any vehicle I own ($35K work truck w/ $20K of stock and $25K or so of tools included) for fear of theft. Small town America still exists, but you have to play by the rules. The main one is the golden rule- do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I'm happy to show my car to anyone who asks, but I'd rather they waited for me to check it out- hence the locks.
Its vandalism that worries me. I've had my car 3 summers now and each summer without fail someone keys the rear deck...once just a long scratch and the other times 4 letter words.

And I do live in a small town (18,000) that just 10-15 years ago you could leave your house unlocked. Now with the discovery of diamonds and the influx of workers, and crime, that that brings its time to leave.

I'm sorry for you both. Midwest living, if you can stand the weather, affords some of the last refuges of post card small town living left in this country. Most teenagers have a hard time with the "stifling" accountability of a small town, but I don't lock my doors (even when I go out for the evening), and I always know where my kids are and what they are doing. Its a great place to raise a family. Whenever someone starts to complain about how we dont have a Starbucks in 100 miles, I tell them to "embrace your inner hick". I can buy Starbucks at the grocery store, and I can get anything I want or need within a half hour. In my opinion, urban living is over-rated, but temperate weather is not. I may move someplace warm when my last one is grown (he's 14), or if the town changes, but probably not before.
Stan,

Amen to that. We live in a small town,(6000) in Oregon and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've lived in a major metropoliltan areas and
not my cup of tea. People here look you in the eye and say hello even if you've never met. We always meet someone we know when we go to the "big" city, Medford, about 12 miles away. We have most of the shops and stores there and have never felt deprived not having trendy shops. In fact the local shops are more interesting anyway. Only downside is that there are no Speedsters close by, although rumors say there is one in Jacksonville, about 15 miles away!

Viva la little town! Bruce
So nice to hear about you guys with no crime in small town bumf&%#@. Here in New Jersey (also pronounced Joisee) someone will steal the shortening out of your cookie if they could. I have no problem with that, since I'm in law enforcement (kinda like job security), but when it happens to me . . . well, that ain't right. Thank your blessings those that have a crime free lifestyle. Me, I need to have locking door handles. I was thinking of having my mother-in-law sit in the car when I'm not there to scare people away, but she has IBS and that might be worse on my car in the long run than had it been stolen or damaged. So Pa-Leeze if anyone knows what friggin handles I have, let me know. I'll post a photo tomorrow about what I currently have. They are malfunctioning, so I would like to replace them with the same or locking style. I am trying to avoid drilling any new holes, etc. Help about a brother, won't you please . . .
