Is the CMC Door lock Mechanism the same as a VW Bug? If so, what years? I am in need of a new one.

My CMC didn't come with locking doors.

I noticed some differences between the assembly in my car and those in the builder's manual that came with it; I think mine are bone stock VeeDub with CMC's aluminum trim plates on the trailing edge of the doors.
Fellas, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can remove the locking mechanism from the VW latch and still use the armature which leads to the escutcheon. The part I think you'll need is the aluminum plate thingie.
I'll pattern what's left of mine if that's the case, and send dimensions. Otherwise, some of these guys will probably know if other makes' plates will work.
I've taken out the parts I don't need anymore and sent them to one of our comrades in New York. I'm going to use levers on the top edge of the door at the front, not the outside handles or escutcheons.

Thanks for the help. I am looking at the other stem and it is labled with VW on it. I am going to make a run to the VW store in the morning and do some comparing.

During the conversion of my VS into a D.
I discovered it had 71 beetle convertble locks and the door button lock throws had been spot welded in the unlock position.
I dye ground them lose and inabled the locks for use. So this speedster does have locks.
But I'm not sure but a standard beetle lock might also work. OY!

Todd I don't think the CMC/VS/JPS Speedster variety are VW units. You can be sure to get them through Kirk at VS or through JPS.
I'm sure the CMC ones aren't from a T1 since they actually supplied them and the striker plates with the kit. If I recall I think CMC claims they are from a T3. I was going to add power door locks to mine as part of a remote locking alarm system.
All the latches are from type 3's. Itook some that were nicer than the ones in mine from a wagon I had sitting around. You have to cut the top part off the door latches though.
