I am finally changing out the orange trailer light front turn signals, to beehives from Sierra Madre. Stupid question I'm sure.....the old lights one connection hot and black ground wire, the bulb base has only one contact point, duh. The new beehive has 2 contact connection posts and the bulb two contact points. I called Sierra Madre and talked with Greg and asked him which post is hot and which is ground. He said it makes no difference?? (the posts are identical) That doesn't seem right.???

It's set up for running light and a turn signal light. The turnsignal is usually a higher brightness. There are 2 filaments on bulb, usually one farthest out is wider and brighter. Real 356 headlights do not have the running light at bottom of the headlight bucket.
Greg;
So then use one post for hot and then run my ground to chassis as before. If I'm not happy with brightness, switch the hot to the other post?

Yes - Or run hot wire (12v +) with jumper to both filaments. Or connect lesser bight one to running light in headlight assembly for running lights that are more visible from the side of car.
Thanks so much.
Wolfgang just an fyi This one has a light bulb in it??
I was always told that the parking light was in the VW and not 356 head light assembly - that since VW head light assemblies were made in greater volume (80k vs ~10m thru '67) and cheaper that they are now substituted to save $. I have seen small parking light bulbs in the headlight reflector bulb assembly - like the new Hella Citi-lights.
After reading DerWhites - It seems there were some "in" right hand drive non-USA non-sealed beams assemblies"??? (or does that refer to the reflector assembly?)

DerWhites discusses the absence of wire wheels on 356 Porsches --- since they were forbidden in Germany.
Are we talking blinkers (Bee Hive) or parking lights in the headlight assembly?
I am trying to get mine sorted as well.
Bill, in my case I was putting in new front turn signals, beehives from Sierra Madre. Greg pointed out that the ones I bought are dual filament. I had there for several options. One filament for turn / e flasher, and the second filament could be wired as additional park/running lights, with the advantage of more side visibility, than the ones located in the headlight can.

Got it thanks. I like the dual purpose idea.
