I believe I have a cmc body --not sure no marking or serial nos. ---looking up into the rear wheel well I noticed a 2in tubing running vertical behind door striker---its not connected to anything ---having done several kit before I would think it should be glassed to the body ---I know the cmc had some strange things from time to time but this is really off the wall ---thanks dennis

Not off the wall - just some of CMC's "Advanced Technology"......
It's there so you can mount one of the two "Decorative Roll Bar" mounting plates used on each side. That one, attached to the vertical post, is for the outward roll bar arm to attach to - it's bolted through the fiberglass and into a metal plate. The plate is attached to an arm which then bolts to that vertical post.

Ironic. I was just fixing my butt sag before the engine goes in. I read the posts out here about it but was shocked at how loose it all is once you drill out those flimsy rivets. What were they thinking? I had an off gap in the drivers door so I drilled them out and jacked it a bit to bring the gap in line then followed with 5/16" bolts like Wolfgang. I also added an aluminum angle bracket on the inside to hold the surrounding engine tin work. This seems like a must do for any CMC owner.
I like the idea of the angle brace. Wolfgang, where did you attach the top of that bracket to?
I extended that boxed "roll bar" mount with a bolted on piece of angle iron then bolted the visible strap to it. I also used a heavy duty construction glue (by Elmers) between the fiberglass and the frame piece (after rivets were removed) - then bolted up using large fender washers.
Gotcha. Thanks! I'll do the same. Anything extra back there is definitely a good idea.
