Does anybody know what year bug tank fits in a CMC kit? Tried one but filler neck is to tall. I am completing a kit that is 90% done. I have no instructions just flying by the seat of my pants.

Become a contributing donor to SOC and magically the CMC build manual will appear in the Library Resources. It has directions for relocating the filler on a stock gas tank. Or buy an aftermarket VW gas tank with filler under the hood.
You will need to cut, shorten and weld the neck back together. I would also suggest having some one do the welding that can keep the neck from getting to hot, this will prevent the small vent tube from coming out (most are soldered into the neck).
If its a '67 or earlier (in the trunk filling) it gets shortened but if '68 up (with fuel filler door) its more complicated - but detailed in the build manual.
It's filler neck is lower on this one..., I've never measured this large tank against the stock vw tank, but others on here have converted to this size and have been happy with it.

Ok thanks for info I have a nice clean tank from a 62 bug and I will just shorten the filler neck.
How do I contribute to SOC?
