I started up the car and went to the grocery store. Got out of the store, tried to start the engine, and nothing. The tach needle moved backward, the amp meter buried itself backward, and no starter clicks, no solenoid noise, nothing. Had a buddy push and pop the clutch and got home fine, beat the starter with a wrench, and still nothing but a little smoke from under the dash.

So, I have a short, obviously. Any ideas where to start looking for an ignition related short? Thanks- Fred

With the key in the on position , try jumping the battery hot terminal to the start terminal on the ignition switch, if it fires you have a bad switch ~Alan
