Addding in a completed chassis, trans, motor etc the current value is about $2500...
if it were located on the right coast I would consider it.
This is the same car I posted a link to last week when it was on Craigslist and he was asking $6,600. The CL link is has now been deleted.
I assume he is referring to new "kits" from Vintage for $13,000.
Here's CMC price list from 1988. Of course there were always special export cancellations and special today only prices. I bit! The optional included gauges were worth maybe $100, the air cleaner $5, the radio $5. Black paint was $150 and bumper over riders were extra $120.
Here's my take on buying building. Back in the day ....1980's a donor vw in good condition was $1200 or so, Now days, a builder needs to buy all donor parts as new hence an easy $7-8k for chassis, motor, trans etc. add in possible paint($3k) and don't forget your time is money too.
If a buyer spends the $6k they could be into the speedster for $17k...might as well buy a used turn key. Now you see why I put it at $2500 or so
I bought the same kit (same color, at least) in new Hampshire a few years back. Options were CMC wheels, radio, mirrors, top, tonneau and a few other goodies. Interior was black vinyl "Speedster" seats. It came with a rusted out 1971 "donor" which included an engine and tranmission, both of which I sold.
The short story: it was advertised for $4K, I bought it for $3K, put another $1,500 into making the pan completely new and sold it for $4,500 to Dr. Clock to finish it (My life was changing at the time and this car wasn't in the next chapter.)
I agree with Alan's estimate of about $2,500-$3,000 for your kit. I also agree that the current market always seems to price a CMC car about $3,000 LESS than a comparable VS, simply because you don't know who built the CMC (or how well).

If it's that low I might as well finish mine and sell it. Mine is a roller on a refurbished 1970 pan and I wouldn't take less than 8k for it now. The body was 12k, the pan was 2k and I still had to add the steering column, wheels, professionally rewelded gas tank, tires and such. The headlights, taillights, door latches and outer handles, decklid, bumpers, wiring and lower trim are installed
