There's a new listing on BaT for what looks like a very cool CMC build.

Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know who's this is and what the story is? It's listed as being from SoCal, near Paso Robles.

It looks like a very well done build, with a ton of well thought out details, including a full, properly done roll bar.

What caught my eye was the intake treatment. It looks like a turbo hat that's been modded to draw air from the compartment in front of the engine, which opens to under the car and is presumably a lot cooler than the engine compartment once things warm up. I've often wondered why this isn't done more. It would be impossible on an original car (which has no such compartment), but seems like an obvious thing to try on our cars.

First bid is already at $25K, with a whole week to go.

Check it out.

I saw that and noticed the intake right away, Mitch (as well as the cut out rain tray and CDI ignition). He's got 16" wide-5s, which were available for about 10 minutes in TheSamba classifieds, and enough other little tricks and whatnot (narrowed trailing arms, etc.) to make me think that somebody really thought about this build -- it's nice in a way I'm wasn't sure a lot of people would appreciate. The interior lets it down a bit, but it's not long money to correct.

I'm glad the opening bid was $25k. It would take a lot of money to replicate.

It's a very nice car.

“I don’t have any decent pictures of the rack and pinion in my car, however, the guy that makes them has a video of the system on youtube. here is the link

He’s also got coilover front suspension on his beam, instead of torsion bars. This thing is trick.

Thanks Stan, that is the Polo rack.  Whomever built the car was aiming for the eagle.

$53,500. That may be a record for a CMC...

My first thought, too.

Irony of ironies — I'm just getting back to checking the final bids here. I wanted to watch the end but had to leave to make a restaurant reservation we had at one of our haunts down in the wine country.

So, I couldn't watch the final bidding because I had to jump in the Speedy for an hour's cruise through some leafy back roads.

Isn't that always the way?

I wonder what the folks at CMC would have thought if you'd told them one of their little kits would be fetching $50K some day?

And a lesson to those who look at sale prices and think buying one of these will be a great investment, as I'm also wondering how much the builder sank into this project, in money and time, over the years.
