NOT MINE.  But still amazed that you can still find unmolested CMC kits for sale.  This one has a shortened '72 chassis (no wheels, trans or engine) - missing windshield glass too.  It's in Indiana - with some wheels and cinch straps it could be flat towed.  These cost $8k with no pan back in 1990 (plus exorbitant shipping from Miami).

It's interesting to me how some kit car suppliers had made outlandish claims about construction times.  Having been interested in kit planes at an earlier stage of life, I found the same nonsense being broadcast by the suppliers of kits for aircraft also.  Forty hours, yes, that was the claim one company stated, the time it would take to have one of their planes ready to fly.  I don't know about you, but I don't think I would take to the air, much less the road, with something as complex as a car or plane built in such a short period of time.

Believe it or not, I have found yet another never-been-started CMC kit here in Massachusetts.  Original buyer who, like me, got overly-busy with his career and just never got around to it (He's a Veterinarian).  Still doesn't want to sell, still wants to build it and thinks he may be retiring in a couple of years (his wife told me he's been saying that since 1998 and is now about 70).  Fortunately for me, he's just far enough away that I can't easily bop over there to help.  Besides, he has a old 911 to run around in.

I remember, though, when I was working with Carey and Kevin Hines about planning the build for Lane's car, that Kevin honestly told me that one person could build their deluxe kit in "about a month" and I believe that, although I would probably add a couple of weeks to that for unexpected "life-gets-in-the-way" moments with family.  That would put it somewhere around 120-150 hours or so.  With the crew we had at Carlisle (16 people divided into shifts of 4-6 people per shift) it took 14 straight hours to a driving car (but it still needed some finish work at Bremen).  That would kind-of prove out the 150 hours for one guy quote.

If I were to build another Speedster from a kit, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Beck.

well, I AM going to bag it. And will try my hardest to run a dry sump for the oil.

My dad built a fiber fab (the one in my avatar pic), and he also restores classic cars for a living. Don't get me wrong!! I will be on here all the time picking brains, last thing I want is my old man calling all the shots. I gotta have some input ya know.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. seems you guys are as excited as me to build this thing!
