I've got an insurance check on the way and an appointment scheduled with a shop to have the recent deer damage to my CMC Californian repaired. I'm  One of the items I need is windshield glass. I've identified three potential suppliers with reasonable prices:

Are there any CMC/Fiberfab owners out there who have replaced a windshield using one of these vendors? How is the fitment against the CMC body? Your experiences will help guide my selection.

Thanks,

Eric

I have done five Speedster windshields using new glass from Carey Hines at Beckspeedster.com  Three were CMC and two were older Vintage cars.  Carey's guys do a great job of packing the glass for shipping and they arrived blemish free.  It's a big box, so there's an extra shipping charge for the bulk, but it's not too dear.

All of them fit perfectly on all cars I did.  I would suspect that glass from Vintage Motorcars would fit as well, but I have not used any from Greg.

I have also documented (with help from Alan Merklin) the process to replace the glass, whether you do it, or you take it to a glass shop, here:

With insurance paying replacement cost - you may want to look into having Beck install it.  Looks like a 5 hr drive from Pittsburg to Bemen.  You may need new rubber if yours is old and dried out.  I'd be leary of having even a windshield professional install - having never installed one before.  I suspect if they break one you supplied - you'd have to supply another.

It is well worth touring their facility and seeing other cars in the process of being built!

A Glass shop will have little to no clue as to how to install a replacement speedster windshield. it's a delegate dance and needs to be done in a specific order with specific torques on the posts and center mirror rod. Do read the windshield post Gordon and I did, following the instructions you can do it yourself. Either myself or Gordon can answer your questions,  pm either of us.
