Hello everyone. I have a set of cofap black shocks on all 4 corners of my Beck 550 and am questioning if that is the most optimal brand for me. Anyone experienced with going Cofap to let's say Bilsteins? I would imagine I need a set of swing axle compatible VW beetle ones in the back and ball joint versions in the front.

I took the Bilsteins off my Beck because they were too stiff. The typical KYB shocks everyone uses were better, but because my Spyder was so low, the rear end bottomed out on the shocks. I was investigations using AirKewld shocks* for lowered cars when I traded my Spyder for a Motorhome.

*Which, from their appearance, look like custom KYBs to me.

If you're looking for comfort, Cofaps are probably the way to go.  A stock front (anti) sway bar would improve handling while not making the suspension unduly harsh.  I was told a number of years ago (15? 20?) by someone on the Samba that Bilstein shocks for street VW's are valved all wrong, as they're set up for the off-road market.  The guy said Bilstein does have a custom shop where you can send them to get the valving rates changed, but with my books and literature still packed up (I'm on the tail end of a kitchen/family room renovation and main floor re-floor) I couldn't tell you if he ever gave an address or phone number.  I remember him mentioning that he'd had the Bilsteins re-valved on his bug and both the ride and performance was superior to Konis

A Beck Spyder can't use a stock front anti-roll bar. At least I think so, the 3" main frame rails would get in the way. Hopefully Carey can chime in here and confirm that.

I have no idea on rears, as my Spyder is a Vintage and has custom coil-overs on the rear.

I have Koni front shocks, and the ride is firm and supple without being TOO firm. Sporty.
