With Henry......anything is possible. You dream it....he will build it.
Ray, I was hoping just to get close by using better led bulbs, maybe some green bulbs.
Your picture looks like 914 gauges at night.
I spoke to Carey about this issue on my gauges and wondered if LED would help. He stated it was probably a losing effort. But, money talks I'll bet, lots-o-money is my guess. You should see how bright my NSX dash is
Japanese gauge contrast has been killer for over 20years.
Mine are pretty good. They were the ones that Henry was designing to go into the water cooled cars a few years back. Just don't like the backlight color.
Next was British aeronautical .. Choices are somewhat limited ...
Hey Marty maybe you can do some r&d
Caretech I agree. Red is cool. Also most navigational instruments, ie sailboats, are red lights. Negatively effects night vision the least.
My BMW 3 series, has orange-ish, which is also cool.
From memory (always a risk, I know), both Palo Alto and N. Hollywood routinely offer custom led background bulbs in several colors for gauges, as well as new, silk screened faces for most of the common gauges. You choose the color combo you want for gauge face, background lights, etc. They had several examples on their web sites that were works of art.
I had a 3 series wagon that I did a TON of work on. I loved that car. The orange/red dash was always my favorite.
With regard to the 356 gauges - they need a more even distribution of light. I find that they are only illuminated from one or two spots. This seems to create some hot spots. More lights would make them mo' betta.
The bad lighting on the old 356 gauges and even the old porsche units has always been the downfall. I just bit the bullet and bought brand new units and will retrofit them with new bezels and faces to give them the old look. They're lit in 5 places and have less parts that can break.
Yeah, I always liked the red of my old 5000 CS Quattro.
I also liked the blue of the New Beetle.
The white-green of my VDO reproduction gauges is not the greatest, but it does look the part, as in period-correct. I'm glad the dimmer works, there is lots of windshield reflection because the dash eyebrow is less pronounced on Spyders.
