Colors

Ive got a wonderful problem. In line for an IM build this winter. Have NO idea what color to go with. I know, I know, Im the one that has to live with it, but I'll be darned with all the little technical decisions Ive needed to make, Im stuck on this one. Should I go traditional? , something different? Pale yellow, with tobacco seats, tan top maybe. Silver blue, maybe mid-sixties corvette, Rally or Torch Red, Hello Officer...... Porsche silver with red leather, nice... Ruby, midnight blue.....Tangerine?

On a Sunday go new car dealer and browse the rows, pick a new car color that suites you.... the color name and or factory code is at the top section of the window sticker and you will have an exact color.

Red with Ghost flames, I didn't consider that. Like I said Its all in the eye of the beholder. Did I mention that Im mildly colorblind. I have flames on my Harley, stars and srtipes maybe?

I've been told that the new Audi red is stunning!!! maybe check that out if your thinking red.

Your mention of pale yellow reminded me of the prettiest MGB I saw back in my British sports car collecting daze, er, days. It was "primrose yellow" - a pale yellow with a beautiful gloss. It had black leather interior with red piping that really set it off. The topper was a set of gorgeous Minilite-like wheels with polished rims and knock-off spinners. Oh man was it pretty! While the wheels might not go so well on a Speedster, I think the color combination would be sweet.

Want to be unique but traditional??? Lots of ideas here.

Tangerine sounds cool...but those colors that Justin posted are it for me. I'm more of a traditionalist.

Bling > bling tangerine....

The old school Porsche silver has blue and gold hues in it. Looks really, really good over the dark maroon interior.

Of course, there's always the unconventional..........

I thank you all for your input. At the end of the day, its really very personal. Ive seen some wild colors on outlandish builds. That's whats fun about the "non-traditional market" Some of you want the tradition, correct badging, carpets, intruments, gauges, mirrors or big buck steering wheel to hone the car as to original, others not. Im a tweener, I love the traditional look, but its going to have a porsche flat 6 motor. A wolf in sheeps clothing, if you will. Its fun contemplating it. Thanks

Oooopppsss . . . I mean, paint it in a traditional silver, any variation that you like. And THEN . . . when you get tired of it, have a transparent candy sprayed over it in the hue of your choice.

Some early 911 colors would be really beautiful on a speedster. Still German Porche colors, but incorrect for the 356 year. Right now we have an 82 Targa (the spyder's donor-engine car) that we are putting back on the road. Steve is doing a convertible conversion on the car. We are very seriously considering 'back-dating' the body (to look like a 69-73) and painting it Fishcop. Would be very different, a Fishcop blue longhood 3.0 convertible with AC. Hmm...

Fishcop aka Arrow Blue would be stunning on a speedstah and NOBODY has done that one yet (that I've seen).

I don't have the paint code #'s for the individual paint makers (Sherwin Williams, Glasurit, etc), but here are the Porsche #'s and a year for the cars/colors per Red Book, but I've found some colors are known by "nicknames" that don't show up regularly (like Fishcop). To further complicate it, some colors may be renamed but actually be the same color through the years. And the same name can be a different paint code based on year. In otherwords, need a paint chip book to be sure of what you want:

66-67 Gulf Blue - 6603
1972 Gulf Blue - 328
1974 Gulf Blue - 328
1974 Mexico Blue - 336
75-77 Arrow Blue (99% sure this is Fishcop) - 305

When choosing a color, buy what you want exactly. Remember that Porsche has always accommodated well-heeled or well-known customers under their "Special Wishes" program. If someone points out THAT color is NOT right for a 356, just tell them its a Special Wishes car. angela

I'll happily sacrifice the "Gulf" LeMans color scheme for a crack at that Fishcop color. I called the paint guy and he's working on it.
That would be really, really nice on the Sloppy Jalopy -- and it might, accidentally, be a pleasant offset to the Safety Orange. Thanks for the posts (and for letting me horn in, Howard).

I WOULD THEN LIKE TO NAME IT THE "BRONCO" AFTER MY DENVER BRONCOS.
AFTER ALL THOSE ARE DENVER BRONCO COLORS :)

Oh my goodness - LOVE the Arrow/Fishcop with the Orange! With your orange framework that (as Ms. Hilton would say) IS HOT!

Im a Giant fan. "BIG BLUE" would go very well. Angela, thank you for the info. Paint codes, as Im learning are nefariously inconsistent from year to year, let alone manufacturer. Im not that concerned with the car being Porsche correct. Im still thinling about that corvette nassau/marina blue. Beautiful on a mid-sixties vette. Rally Red, very intense,brighter than Ruby Red, but not orangy. The blues you put up gave given me pause. There is also an beautiful, light sky blue that is "correct", that Ive seen at a couple of shows.

Okay, let me throw a couple of other P-car blues at you. Bali Blue, Iris Blue, and Metallic Blue. angela

Although more of a 1955 color rather that 1957, regular blue looks cool ;-)

Boy, they sure loved mustard (pale yellow, tan, puppy-poo brown, whatever) colored cars back then.

Probably went well with those tan turtle necks and brown polyester "flaired" slacks. Bet that it drove all the "Ladies" wild.

Ive seen that site before Cory, thanks for putting it up for me. Im trying to get out of the box here. Some of the new Harley colors are awesome,Red, blues, Anniversary silver. All great. The other question is the interior combo's with the paint. That's a whole thread itself. Im didn't thinks colors would get that much play. Its nice to know Im not the only one who struggles with it. Its a good "problem" to have.

Here's a color I've always thought would be a beautiful twist on the conventional Speedster pallette: a cool, silvery-green Jag shade called "Seamist"... It's not in the 2007 line, but can be found on pre-owned Jaguars.

Next time you pass by a dealership, run through the lot and take a look.

Cory, beautiful color! Ive come to at least one decision. Im not going to do a red car. Ive had a couple of P-cars, the last one was a 88 Turbo cab in guards red. I think I want a lighter, metallic color.With a dark leather, accent piping along the speedster seats, with light carpets in the same color family. We'll see, I just love all the input from the speedster club.

Cory, I believe it's "Seafrost" -- wife has a new S-TypeR.

The other great Jag color is "Zircon" --- neat light blue.

I have seen soooooo many great colors just on this post alone, I will never consider another black, red or silver......no offense meant towards those who love 'em. I do too, I just love the different ones a little more.
