There was a stunning dark muted blue at IM last week, I don't know whose it is, but I have to say it was one of the nicest Body / Roof / Interior combinations I have seen. You'd need to see a picture as you would not think those colours would work together.

I can't remember the colour combination but it was great. Call Henry late next week ( he's out of town ) and ask him about it, I'm sure he'll remember. We all thought the car was sweet.

Angela, I am not thinking of getting a car with the engine facing the "wrong" way. I needed to join so I could search for the 4-cam carrera engine shroud that I knew was on that site. I used to visit there fairly often and have gotten many valuable technical tips that I use on my car.

Sorry I missed seeing you in Oregon, I had a small valve seat issue.
Saves ALL Jews through womanly wiles. Babylonian captivity and all. Also the most beautiful woman in the kingdom.

There's a new movie coming out either now or in a week based on the Book of Esther "My night with the King" or somesuch.

Not clear why the movie didn't come out during Purim (basically Jewish Mardi Gras), as it celebrates the events of the Book of Esther.

It is the only holiday, by the way, where one is DIRECTED BY LAW to get roaring drunk.
If you're old-school traditional, like me, I'd go with a car like Dale Bates (Dale) black/tan/polished Fuchs or Jim Ward (Dubudee) red/black/chrome 5-wides, two of my favorite cars on this site.

If you're going outlaw, then anything goes. It's a personal decision (i.e. - you wouldn't ask if you should buzz your hair or grow a mullet - not that there is anything wrong with that!).

Whatever color you decide on, it will only enhance your enjoyment of that bad-boy you're having built in Vancouver!

Peace - Out!
Dale - you're correct, my I car was painted on Tuesday. It arives back at IM on Monday, today they are buffing it. I went with a ruby red, a darker red with faint metalic paint. I choose a very subtle metalic effect so you only see the kicks in the highlights, it should look solid otherwise. I went with a tan roof and a warm biscut leather.

I've been going to the shop once a week video taping the building of my car, from the welding of the frame to the endless hand sanding of the body. I've shot almost three hours so far and will probably have about 6 by the time I'm done. It should cut into a nice little 5 minute piece. Perhaps my shooting ratio is a bit excessive, but you never know what's going to work until you start editing.

If I'm lucky I'll have the car around Christmas, a bit past the traditional convertable season here in Vancouver, but perhaps it'll be my present from Santa H.R. Clause.

Jim, Your right about Jim and Dales car, they are both great builds.. Im also going with Fuchs wheels, polished or chromed with the inner spindles color keyed to the body. I found Hella fogs, like the ones on the Ward car. Traditional certainly works, but so does different. Its a very personal choice of course. We'll se, I dont have to make a choice till after the New Year. I'll go back and forth several times Im sure.
Howard - your car, like a beautiful woman, will look good in any well-applied and properly accessorized color. And Fuchs are THE accessory!

Esther - my favorite mountain bike (I have 4 bikes...) is pink with white flames. Not for everyone, but definately for me. It seemed that my standard "lid" was just a little too ho-hum for this cool bike. So over the summer I busted out the hot-glue gun and put a tiara and a bunch of iridescent butterflies on it. The tiara is pretty small because it has to clear my helmet light.

"oggie, Would you consider contemporary Porsche palette acceptable? Or do they need to be retro for the heritage of the vehicle? Just would like to get your opinion. Thanks"

Howard, sorry for the slow response. If you were repainting a real 356, then you'd want to stick with colors that were available for your model and year to preserve originality. Any deviation will cost you points in a concours. But, on a replica, it doesn't matter. Nonetheless, with all the Porsche components going into your car, somehow it seems it should be a Porsche color. I know you like the Corvette Nassau Blue color, and it sure is very beautiful and deep. You might want to consider a similar Porsche color. The only one I can think of is Azzura Blue Metallic (I think that's the name), which was only available on the 2005 911 Club Sport and meant to be a "modern interpretation" of Azure Blue from the 1950's (which was not metallic).
Im glad to see the azzura blue. Very close the that Nassau/ marina mid-sixties blue Im considering. Yes, the car will have all Porsche components, it should be a Porsche color if possible. Its really a toss between this blue and Ruby red. If blue, I would do a Navy top, with blueberry/navy leather and piping that matches the outside color with a light blue carpet and dark blue trim. If red, it must be with Tan top, leather, with red side piping and light tan carpets. The red really pops, See Jim Wards car, beautiful, the silver blue is cool, different, unique combo. Ive had red porsches, maybe something different this time. I plan on keeping this ride for a LONG time. I wont have to really decide till the end of this year. Im amazed at the repose to "colors", youve all been really helpful.
You know, you're right about the "different" colors thing. If someone had described to me the color of Scott Sloan's car, I'd have been pretty non-commital. Just don't think it would flip my switch.

But you know what? Every time I see Scott's car, I find myself taking pictures of it. I've fallen in love with this unusual but very elegant color. Of all my speedstah buddies, I have the most pictures of Scott's car! angela

There are a couple colors from bygone years I haven't seen on a Speedster yet.
One was BSB from the 70s Targa 911s. It was almost exactly the color of baby poop, but it looked really, really good in German trimmed with dark brown and black.
The other was a 928 Schwartzmocha (sp?) color. It was the color of black coffee. I'm partial to that because it made my second Shark invisible in traffic; apparently police radar didn't see it, either. Parked by itself though, it looked good -- like race day -- every day.
IMHO, either would look goot on a little Tub.
Howard, I must chime in again, on the interior and top colors.

If Azzura blue: That color absolutely demands a very light interior, such as Porsche Linen or Grey-beige. Top should be navy. Piping on seats also navy (Porsche Metropol blue will work). Top of dash and very top of door panels could also be Metropol blue. I assume your carpets will be square weave, so I think your choices are somewhat limited. I'd go with the lightest beige available, or if you prefer and it's available, navy.

If Red exterior: Tan top, beige interior (Porsche Cashmere, Cashmere II, Sand Beige or similar). Porsche Natural Brown leather for top of dash and very top of door panels. Natural Brown piping. Oh, the canvas cover for the top when it's open (I'm not sure what that's called) could also be the same as the Natural Brown color or the same tan as the top.

One last suggestion: hire an interior decorator by the hour to help you with color selections. The cost will be well worth it. We hired a decorator just to help us select colors for the granite, tile, grout, cabinet pulls, and leather chairs when we re-did our kitchen this year and were glad we did.
