My engine started to run really crappy and I barely inched the car home. My first thought was I had clogged idle jets in my Weber 44IDF's, so I pulled them both off and cleaned all the passages. They were really clean. Nothing in the little strainer where the fuel enters each carb. So I put it all back together and tried to start it. Nothing.

Then I thought electrical, so I removed the distributor cap and looked for anything unusual. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary. By the way, when I overhauled the engine last year, I installed the Compu-Fire electronic ignition which eliminates the points. It has worked very well for the 3,000 miles I have put on it since the overhaul. So anyway, I put the cap back on and tried to start it. It started, but ran crappy. I checked the carb sync and they were right on after a small linkage adjustment. So now I am really scratching my head.

I was getting ready to re-install the points when I noticed the module was loose. I tightened it up, put the cap back on and alas, it ran like a top. The other thing was my tach was acting really funny, dancing around and that kind of thing. Well, when I tightened the module, the tach problem went away. Then I remembered the tach is fed off the coil. (Light comes on here)

Anyway, for those of you with this electronic iginition, it might pay to check that little allen screw holding down the module. If the engine runs crappy and the tach acts funny, more than likely that screw is loose. Oh well, I have now got really clean carbs and a smooth running engine. It's 66 degrees out here on the CA central coast and I am going for a ride.
