Considering purchase of this car - would like experienced Owners opinion

This would be my first speedster - after researching I've decided to purchased a used speedster before taking the plunge on a new one. I'm interested in this car:

Apparently it requires a bit of door hinge repair. How much work does this entail and are there other issues I'm not seeing?

That car looks great and I love that color. But there is something about all the pics being in the shade that concern me. There is sun right behind hin but he chose to snap in the shade. Anyways The snaps are a cinch and the door repair could be easy or hard. You would have to see it in person. Worst case scenario take it to a corvette guy and pay to have it fixed.

Thanks Darren, I figure a vette shop could deal with the hinge fix easily enough. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the price doesn't get too crazy...

I bought a used old IM and it was pretty solid. There are always going to be issues with a car that is almost 30 years old (drooping, paint, chrome pitting, etc...)it's to be expected.

You should think about making the trip to Carlisle if you are not planning to. You should be able to see some fine examples of speedster of all grades. Plus you never know what will be forsale there.

I really wanted to go to Carlisle and see the different manufacturers cars - VS and JPS especially. I'll be away in West Virginia this weekend though so I'm out of luck :(

Hummm - Couple red flags to me. 90hp from a 1600cc engine? (Probably double what it really is!) Registered as a '67 Porsche due to being built on a Ghia pan? (Wouldn't that make it a '67 VW as in VW Karmann Ghia?) I prefer more modern IRS suspension vice the swing axel vintage - which is probably more true to original.

Looks to be a real nice platform; Intermecs are the originator; love the color too.

"90hp from a 1600cc engine?" I've been reading Bill Fisher's (How to Hot Rod VW Engines) under the section Bolt-on Horsepower (can be done w/o removing the engine), he claims that several mods can be done without splitting the case. I'm just quoting his book here, his dyno test chart shows;

Stock 1500cc; Approx 46 hp
Blocking Exhaust Heat to Manifold: Approx 47 hp
Extractor type 4 to 1 system: Approx 50 hp
Zenith 32 NDIX carbs: Approx 59 hp
EMPI high lift rocker arms: Approx 63 hp
Flycutting Heads: Approx 64 hp
Holley Bug Spray Carbs: Approx 65 hp
Heads with 40mm intake valves: Approx 68 hp
Stock size valve heads w/o muffler: Approx 74 hp
Stinger: 77.5 hp

He also states that Dual-port Heads could push the range near 100 hp, though requires taking the engine out.

Given that this was all done in 1969, Is the author out of scope with his claims?
I would like to know, cause I too would like to see if I could get more out of my 1600cc without having to go thru much expense.

I would love to hear more from the experienced members...

He didn't but its on evil-bay (Ebay) and is $5k now with over 4 days to go.

I didn't purchase it, I'm not too keen on buying a car that needs bodywork. I'll continue to watch it on evil-bay to see where it goes, just have to keep my hands away from the keyboard :)

I'd like to ride in/drive a few before I make up my mind which one to buy.
