Need some advice on wether these dimmensions will cover the exsisting holes and plate of my exsisting Aero Mirrors. I have a 2007 Vintage. I have been emailing CSP in Germany. Does anyone know a good product in the states? Here are the dimmensions:

Hello,

the base has CIRCA 90 millimeter to 27 millimeter.
From hole to hole are 50 millimeter.

With kind regards

Marty, I'm glad you posted this---I feel the exact same way about switching the crummy Aero mirrors for better ones that you actually can see out of---what a concept---right? The fix that was posted here did not work for me so I want a replacement.

The very fact of the Aeros being two ledt side mirrors and not a left one and a right one is patently stupid. Speedies are hard enough to see out of anyway---especially with the top up that to have Aero mirrors is just plain negligent.

I hope someone posts an answer to your question.

How about a "REAL" set of Aero mirrors rather than the toys lots of us have?---Jack
Jack,

After seeing Ferris Buellers Day off last night on TV, I am giving strong consideration to the switch. The Ferrari in this movie has the Bullets and they look hot. Not to mention you can back out of the garage with the top up to wash the car; that would be great. Speaking of the Ferrari, I think the guy from Thunder Ranch built it for this movie.

Marty!

DON'T DO IT!!!

I had those Bullet things on my wife's Austin Healey 3000 and they look SO MADONNA. Like something a high school Junior would put on the Buick he inherited from his grandmother, cuz he could get them from Pep Boys (a female high school Junior would never even consider them).

You have a car from the late 50's. THOSE things do NOT look "late 50's"

Just MHO, but

I'm just sayin.........

You've got more class than that..........

I like the look - especially on a wide body. The Talbot ones tend to be costly - but you can still get replacement parts for them. They carry new glass, concave too, plus all the gaskets. They come in several styles - Berlin, a swept style, plus large and small sizes. Also chrome or a flat aluminum. Do a "Talbot" search on ebay - there are currently a nice pair (of mirrors) in stainless steel in England for $70 + reasonable shipping.
Marty, I have one of those repro mirrors that Gordon advises against -- and it's not on my car because it looked kind of silly for what I have going on. It's identical to the one in the link.
If you do want it, I'll need an address to mail it to. I went the GT mirror route instead, so it's yours for the asking.

Marty, those appear to be exactly what are on Tom's green coupe. For the coupe's lines, they really look nice.
It might be blasphemous, but you might consider taking the front half of the mirror to the paint shop and getting that section masked and painted the same as your body color if you're going to put some on a Speedster body. Makes the miror a whole lot less obtrusive on a little car.
I always thought the bigger bullet mirrors on our cars kinda looked like Mickey Mouse ears on a frog.
Marty:

Yes, you do need a longer screw after the suction cup mod, something about 1/8"-3/16" should do. The idea is to space the mirror's ball (on the back of the mirror) farther away from the socket in the mount so that it gains a little more sideways aiming travel. If you use the original (now too short) screw, it'll pull the ball too close to the socket and limit the movement. I know it's not much of a difference, but it's ALL the difference.

As a last resort, you could take a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to the car-centerline side of the Aero mirror mount, to remove a little material along the lip in a small crescent shape, such that you get a bit more movement over there, but the suction cup spacer should have given you that (OK, so mirrors are placed in different parts of the car, some needing more movement. Use your own judgment).

I didn't say I didn't like bullet mirrors....I just think that they just look better on some cars (typically, British) than others (Italian and German).

On the other hand, if you HAVE to have one or two on there, they seem to make more sense on the door than out front on the fenders. Whoever had my wife's old Healey before us didn't take any chances: Had two mounted forward on the fenders, and two more on the forward part of the doors (along with the usual center-dash rear view mirror). Do you think that all those make the car "Backward looking"????
Yeah, Marty, you can.
Although when I went to the glass guy, he wouldn't guaranty the work and insisted I purchase three mirrors at his price.
So I went on Ebay and found two round convex bus mirrors for about $15.00, traced the mirror shape onto the convex mirror and had at it with a belt sander. I started with a coarse grade (80 grit) belt and finished with a 180 grit. I went through three belts.
Did it on the first try.
Convex is good, just remember that depth perception (actual distance to rear following vehicle) isn't even close! I've got a huge convex mirror (from a water ski boat) mounted on my windshsield post. I use it to keep track of where traffic is - I can see three lanes wide to the rear - but use my flat glass side mirrors to calculate distance. Takes discipline, but it does work for me.
I had bullet style mirrors mounted on the doors and found them to be almost useless. I replaced tham with a pair of mirrors that I bought from these guys

I used their CMEO5 model mirrors, they are much better for seeing out behind and when fitted they hide the holes that bullet mirrors were mounted on.

Steve
Bingo!! That Stoddard mirror is just what the doctor ordered! Who the hell ever came up with the stupid idea of putting two left side mirrors on a Speedie in the first place. To me this is a very serious safety issue.

Thanks for posting the Stoddard mirror---they will sell a bunch of these.

I hope the holes are the same as the one on my car now! Anyone know?----Jack
