I would like to see what others have done as far as building or installing some type of console from under the dash to the center tunnel. It could be for anything such as a stereo, storage, or cup holders etc. If you could include a photo, whether you made it yourself, bought it online, or had someone make it for you. If you had someone make it for you what type of business was it that made it for you?

I've included a photo of something similar installed in a VW as reference. Thanks.

If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Robert, I've always thought a console - no matter how well-made - somehow seemed wrong in a Speedster. But still, you need SOMETHING for sunglasses, garage door opener, and the odd bits.

When I got my car, I put in this simple wooden 'non-console' box from Ikea 'temporarily' until I could think of something better. It's held to the carpet with velcro strips on the bottom. It came with a lid, which looks a whole lot better, but it was always in the way.

Well, three years later...

I experimented with it, but went away from it. My Beck has door pouches that holds sunglasses, etc. I found that I could velcro my garage door opener under the right edge of my seat (on the carpet that covers the bottom) and it was handy, hidden, works great, and out of the way. Likewise, I velcroed my EZ Pass behind the dash. It works great, is out of the way, and hidden. I installed folding cup holders in the footwell. They're there when I need them (if you do this ask me which ones). I modified a suction mount to hold my phone for navigation to clamp onto my mirror rod.

I found the consoles ate up too much leg room & I like the decluttered look.

I had a wicker package tray in my '57 Oval.  Loved it and have often thought it might be nice to have one in Pearl.

Back then, after riding around for a week or so in the Oval and tossing God-knows-what up on there, I would inevitably find someone to race at a stop light and when I launched, all that stuff came flying back to haunt me (and any passengers, too).

There should be a warning label:

"WARNING!  Do not launch when tray is Full!"

"Unfortunately, the brakes were bone stock and were good for one semi-decent stop every 30 minutes or so....."

Having driven Beetles as my main transportation for close to 15 years I find that statement so on the mark, Gordon!

Ghia discs and either rear type 3 drums or discs make anything VW based just that much safer.

Mr Teby S, your interior trim there looks really nice, and the side pockets neat as a pin.  I have pockets worked on the door panels, and these are fine for all the normal shyt you need, plus my front lic plate which i refuse to mount on the car: sunscreen, registration, E-Z pass, tire pressure gage, insurance card, gar door opener, church key, and log book, + . . . Wassamater youse guys you need a console too?  I'll admit that a cup holder would be nice.
