I recently saw a photo of a speedster which had it's reverse light converted to become a 3rd brake light with what I assume was a red LED bulb, but now I can't remember where I saw this. Does anyone remember this? I did a number of searches but can't find it. Has anyone done this? Seems like a great idea, even if the light is low (compared to in the grill like others have done) it still provides an extra protection against a rear ender. Has anybody done this?

I saw it too but don't remember where. I would leave the lens clear and replace the bulb with a red one.
Speedsters have a reverse light?
Yes. The shine down (or up) license plate light has lights to illuminate the license plate (one on the left and one on the right), and the light in the middle facing out is the reverse light.
I believe that John Hallstrand's (@Hoss) old car (Redman) had it done that way.

Never noticed that before. LOL
My concern with using that as a third brake light is that it is at the same height or lower than the regular brake lights. People may not even notice it. However, anything that can be done to put out more red lights while braking is better than nothing.
I have a brake light under the grille. I installed a device used on motorcycles that makes it flash to help people notice it.

I have their lights on each side of my license plate bracket on my motorcycle. They are excellent quality and very bright! There is a noticeable difference in how closely people stop at red lights!
The one I used was about the diameter of a quarter. I don't remember where I got it from and a brief google search didn't turn it up.
This is a neat idea. But for me, the high-mounted aspect beats the lower one. Get an $8 LED strip from Summit and put it inside the engine grille. You can't see it unless it's lit, and believe me, when it's lit it's REALLY bright AND in line-of-sight for the yahoos bearing down on you and trying to ruin your day.
That is a neat idea... thanks for posting it.
FYI Kahtec.com sells all kinds of flashing circuits I have the intelligent unit. Works well on the cyclops light.
