Get your motor runnin.....
I will plan a Run to either Crestline or Lake Arrowhead, final
destination and date to be determined by the response I get from
this post, I would like to get as many cars as possible of course..

Kevin: Give me a weekend thats good for you and see what the Spyder
people think...
David: Your new Badge should be in by then (end of August) what weekend is good for you...

We have had much fun the last two times out, once south, once north,
this will be our eastern swing.....

This post is only for the guys/gals who like to ride their cars,
rather than sit around looking and talking about them...

OK....
Lets say Sunday the 29th of August, Destination to be determined,
But Arrowhead/Crestline was the initial thought pattern....
Lets see how many people/cars we can put together.....
The wine run had several other brands of cars, and we all seemed
to get along quite nicely, so all brands are welcome, but it would
be nice to see a few more speedster/spyders in our caravan.....

Kevin, The road to Lake Arrowhead.....
In trying to accomodiate everyone and their distance traveled,
It appears by looking at the maps that the following is our best
route, if you find something better, please let me know.....
I leave from Redondo and hook-up with David and the 2 Joes
somewhere at the intersection of the 91 and the 710 head north
to the 5 then the 2 and meet up with you at the intersection of the
134 and the 2 (apparently the 134 is what the 101 turns into)we then all take the 134 E which becomes the 210 which will lead to the 30
then onto the 18 which leads to Lake Arrowhead...
I can only plan around the people we know will come....
If you have people from the valley who want to join us you can meet them as we did for the wine run and meet us at a designated spot
by the 134 and the 2, David can meet the 2 Joes in either Long Beach
or wherever....right now this is just a first look at the route and any input would be appreciated.......

To All...If you wish to join in this run, read the proposed route and see if it fits for you or if we need to modify it for your needs...

I realize most of the miles are freeway, but to get to the lake at a
reasonable time we need to put some miles on....there will be plenty of curves once we leave the freeway and climb the hill...

give me some input.......................
Another alternative is to all meet in Santa Monica and take the 10
all the way to the 215 then to the 30 and then the 18...
shorter and less miles (about 100 one way) but the 10 is more busy
than the 210 which would be the alternate eastern route...
OR
we could say screw that distance and go to Wrightwood and take the 2
which is mostly twisty road once you leave glendale.....

I almost think that Lake Arrowhead may be more than some of the guys
are willing to go for a round trip in one day, we may have to rethink
this into a Wrightwood run.........

Give me input.....

I'm leaving Friday morning in MR 356 to Santa Cruz along Hiway 1
Cambria the first night stop.....will return Monday.....
No computer for 4 days..........

Just got back from Santa Cruz a few hours ago, put 854 miles on MR 356
will attach pic's in a few days.....That motor never missed a beat....
took hiway 1, Cambria, Morro Bay, Big sur, Carmel, 17 mile drive etc,
never saw another speedster, but I got a lot of looks.....

These cars are really road worthy, so get them out and put some miles on them, If I worried about breakdowns, I'd never go anywhere....

I will now start the planning for the August run, never heard back from anyone about the possible destinations....I am leaning toward Crestline rather than Lake arrowhead, due to the distance, but I would like to know what anyone else thinks......so please give me some input....
Vince -
The Spyder guys usually do the Crestline run later in the fall (October, November time frame) for the cooler weather. I personally thought your idea to head up to Arrowhead was great, I actually was working on a route around Arrowhead & Big Bear when you posted your idea.
Joe,
I actually prefer Arrowhead, but I am under the impression, by the lack of response that maybe it was too long a run on the freeway....
I see tons of posts about how to fix this or that or look what I'm doing now but nobody seems to want to drive their cars further than
a few miles at a time....
Screw these posers, Arrowhead it is, if you are afraid your car can't make it, stay home............
Hey Vince I have been out of the loop for a few days. I will make the run to to the lake for sure. I can meet you in Redondo or at the 91/710 just let me know I would like to lower the back of the car before the run and maybe add that cherry exhaust form Kirk.

Is the plan to pack a lunch again? Or will we find a spot to dine in?
Vince just let me know how I can help with any plans?

This is going to be a lot fun. If you live in southern California and don't make this run you will really miss out on a really good time with some great people and some extraordinary cars

OK, we got a date, 29th of August, and we have a destination,
Lake Arrowhead....We will buy lunch/drinks rather than bring them,
All we need now is the actual route we will take.
It appears most of the miles will be freeway, the 10 will be crowded
coming back, being sunday, so we need to put some thought into the
route we take for both directions.....
We have time, so be thinking of which type of roads would be best
for us to travel....I have maps of the area, so give me suggestions...
I want all of us to be happy, so its best we do the route planning
as a group.....
I want to thank you all...David, Kevin, the Joe's and now Dennis, for taking the time to reply with your interest...there must be 50 speedster owners on this site in the greater L.A. area, and it seems the same 5 or 6 are the only ones interested in actually driving their cars. the rest act like their real speedster owners who are afraid to take them out of the garage.... Their Volkswagons folks,
they are capable of many miles, I just proved it this weekend, 850
miles to Santa Cruz and back.....
Good God how many miles is that?
Aww what the hell let's drive.
Erwin,Mike McSween, Joe Lampariello, John McNulty, Bert where are you guys? Get the car out of the garage.

I will tell you this the cars that are driven on some of these trips will fetch the most money because they have been documented road worthy. Moreover, when a buyer comes along and reads some of the post about our fun runs and all the guys will vouch for the cars mechanicals. Just a thought but I have had a coupel too.No hold on make that 4 damn. Hows my typing?
Hey guys,
When we went on the Wine run, I stayed overnight in Solvang,
which was right there where I left you guys the night before,
when I got home my odometer read 356 miles, which I thought was
pretty cool....I didn't do any round-about stuff, just jumped on the 101 and the 1 to get back home...
So the Lake Arrowhead trip should be no more than the wine run
in miles. Unfortunetly, most of those miles will be freeway,
no matter which route we take.. my maps are in my wifes car today
and she is at work, but I will have a route by this weekend to
discuss further, I want all of us to be happy with what is finally
decided....this is suppose to be fun......
ok guys, tell me what you think....
we have 4 east/west possibles, 91/10/60/210, sunday morning
is probably less traveled then any other time, I think the 210
is the less traveled of all the choices so we use it coming home.
The 10 is the straighest to the mountains and closer than the 91 for the guys coming from the valley so we use it going to arrowhead..
here is the proposed route....
southern guys meet at the 405/110 merge, proceed on the 110N to the
10E, to the 101/10 merge where we pick up the northern (valley) guys
and continue on the 10E to the 15N to 138E to 18E to 189E
to Arrowhead...Once we have had as much fun as we can stand, the return will be 189W to 18W to 30N to the 210W towards Pasadena
we lose the Valley guys in Pasadena and take the 110 homeward.
We basically traveled the least amount of miles all things considered
and avoided the most heavily traveled freeway (91 and 10) coming home.
As Joe said we will need to start early, so I think meeting at the
405/110 location (still to be determined) at 7:30 is reasonable....
perhaps 8:15 meeting up with the Valley guys at the 10/101 location
(still to be determined) that gives 45 minutes to get to that
location....I think thats do-able....

I know there are a lot of so. cal. speedster/spyder guys out there, so instead of standing in your garage looking at your car, or mentally
masterbating each other in the technical sections of this site,
perhaps you may actually enjoy the company of other owners who
like to drive theirs.........you may be suprised how much fun we have
driving them in a group.....
Besides if you have the "extended" tow with AAA which all of us should have, then if you do break down its a tow home and a story to tell later on the site......
Sunday August 29th.....Lake Arrowhead.......
David,
Dahhhhh, do you know what the odds are of being able to meet "ON"
the freeway all at the same time......ass-tronomical, I think...
I will try to figure out a meeting place within the next week or so...
I will visit the area where the 405 and 110 meet, I'm actually not far from that location.....
Kevin, I would appreciate it if you could coordinate a meeting place
for all coming from the Valley, and if someone knows the area where the 10/101 is, we need to know if there is a place to meet there...
Thanks, in advance...
Gabriel,
I have had no response from anyone in Orange county to this point
so I have to assume that you are the only one interested, but i'm sure we can work out an approx time of our arrival at the 10/91 merge and pick you up at that point....maybe keep in touch via cell phone..
if we time it right, you can merge onto the 10 right into the group..
what do you think......
