I have a early 2000's Intermeccanica Roadster with roll-up windows.  The previous owner had a nicely built 1776 put in.  He installed a Vintage Speed exhaust and removed the heater boxes.

Any idea if stock boxes will fit on this?  It looks like they will, but I'm not positive.

I sent email and pictures to Vintage Speed, but haven't heard anything back.

Along with checking the size of the heater box pipes, I’m pretty sure stock boxes won’t have flanges on them as your current muffler has, so you’ll have to get flanges welded on to the heater box pipes.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here, but those J-pipes look quite a bit larger than stock pipes so let us know what you find when you measure things.  I have some stock 1,600cc heater boxes in the shop attic if you want me to measure the pipes.

.

Theron, my Vintage Speed system uses 1.5" (38mm) pipes. Decent heater boxes in this size are commonly available, but they're not technically 'stock' - which is 1.375" (one and three-eighths) or 35mm.

On the Vintage site, it looks like their systems are available only in 38mm or larger (but maybe I didn't look closely enough). There should be a part number engraved somewhere on your muffler, which would let you check the size.

One complication is that with larger than stock heater boxes, the flange that connects to the muffler may not be clocked to line up with the holes in the muffler. (I got my heater boxes from Aircooled.net and they warned about this when I ordered.) The flanges then have to be cut off the heater boxes, reoriented to line up, and then rewelded on. Here's what that looks like on mine:

These are good quality heater boxes. They're heavy and provide good heat, so they probably have decent fins inside.

It looks to me as though you may already have the VS flange adaptor???

Just got back from work and took a couple of photos of mine.  Heater box pipe size is around 38mm, the VS exhaust pipe size (on mine) is 43mm.  Not sure if these are standard boxes; they have a weird pipe emanating from the side......possibly were once hooked up to the kombi blower motor I've just removed.
