Anyone have experience adapting a 6 volt 356 temperature gauge to a VW motor with 12 volt electrics?  I'm fine on the + side using a voltage reducing diode, however, the 356 gauge apparently isn't compatible with my VDO accessory gauge sender.  The 356 gauge pegs when power is applied without the sending unit attached.  Grounding the sender terminal brings the needle back to the cold side.  The VDO accessory gauge works the opposite.  There are inexpensive senders available (first pic)

but these require "updating" the gauge.

I also found this one for '64 356, but I'm not sure it will fit my AS41 case. (second pic)

I'm sure this isn't new ground, and I'll consider "updating" my gauge if that's the answer, but if there is a sending unit that will make it work I'd much prefer to go that way.

Thanks for any suggestions
