Saw this on local fb. I thought someone in this crowd might be interested in flat /ac engines. One car is a vert and I'm sure they're both really rusty.

There are 2 problems (I know about) using a Corvair engine in a rear engine situation- you've added even more weight (as much as 100 lbs) behind the rear wheels, and a VW transaxle (specifically, the r&p) is designed to spin the other way so the engine has to be built with a reverse rotation camshaft and I don't know what you do about the distributor.
Solution - use a 914 5 speed - no need to reverse R&P. Didn't the late turbo engines put out 180 hp! Zoom-Zoom.
Did you see the huge stack of Corvair hub caps. What a collection.
Corvairs were great cars. I had an early convertible one that I ran during university - gold with similar interior, floor shift. The babes loved it.
Then, my father owned a later two door coupe. My wife and I had our first date in that. I was supposed to drive her to the train station so she could get back to her nursing school, but we ended up talking so late we missed the last train. So, take dad's car to Toronto and then back home.
Lots of good memories from Nader's favourite car...
