Hi guys,

i have been quoted two figures to lower my VW...

I am lowering the front using 2 1/2" drop spindles and the rear is being lowered also by adjusting the torsional bars one or two splines.

OK - one shop quoted 4 hours and then the other 8 hours labour. Not sure as both are VW workshops. Mmmm wondering how many hours I should expect to pay to fit spindles and lower the rear.

Any thoughts...

Hmmmmm.......

Well, four hours seems a bit short, while 8 hours to swap the front spindles, do a front-end alignment, check the height and adjust, if necessary (that's a morning, right there), then adjust the rear height twice (very few places ever get it right the first time) and make sure the corners are height balanced seems a lot closer to reality.

If they come in under 8 hours then give them a bonus plate of brownies.

If the four hour place will guarantee the price regardless of hours (pay for the job, not the hours, in other words) and they have a good rep (other than talking a good line), then go with them.  Caveat emptor.........

Thanks again guys for the replies.

There are three workshops that do VW work...

I went with the guys who quoted 8 hours. They pulled spindles out of stock and seemed to know their stuff. They had old kombis and even two Things there. Lots of retro bits about.

The others whilst obviously good, work on general mechanical as well as old and new VW. They had a few Golf cars there and a type 3....

Thanks again.

Bernie.

I would still get the adjustable spring plates to fine tune the weight. I havent used the atom works plates, but there nice looking&made well, I have the swayaway type on my bug.

you wont know till you getter done and see just what you end up with, but depending on how much you can get some plates for & new bushings/gromets it would be the time to put them on so you can fine tune the hight&weight on each tire. good luck&keep the dirty side down.

Thanks again guys for the feedback.

I live in Australia - the Land Down Under.

I am fortunate having Euro cars nearby along with Wolfsburg Motors in Barwon Heads  Road precinct and VW Performance in Melbourne. So a few options.

The Speedster is a recent purchase and I have a few other cars that re mainly American based.

..if anyone is interested I am happy to share car pictures, garage photos etc. just email me at                                                 kni-time@bigpond.net.au

thanks again for the advice for lowering..
