I'm either a fool or I'm cool, but I couldn't resist:

I already have a fresh built up 1914 with MAGNUM 44 big valves heads and CNC porting, 1.4:1 rockers, Engle FK8 cam, straight cut gears, Melling pump, full flow, balanced eight dowel Demello crank, lightened flywheel and all the rest of the usual suspects. I think that this lil' guy would be the perfect topper and cause a second look or two in the Pre-A coupe once Todd finishes up the welding for me.

Fool, cool, or tool, I own it now . . .

I have a rubber snorkel that will fit the top of the quad, flattens out and runs about a foot towards the driver's side. It was originally an air plenum with a throttle body fitted to the end, came from a German Ford of some sort. Grabbed it at Carlisle just cause it looked neat, guess that I did the right thing back then without realizing it.

That ought to take care of the clearance issue, I'll need to whip up a pre-heater tube, Easy Peasy, just not sure if it should snake around the manifold base and tubes or just weld to the bottom like the progressive Weber set-up. I'll research that later on.

No biggie, just kinda glad to have this found one in working order for a good price.

From what I've seen in the VW magazines from the 80's, big carbs are Babe Magnets. Seems that they like to stand next to them in bathing suits and high heel shoes for some reason(?) but I'm not gonna complain . . . long as they don't scratch the paint.
Just sent the bank check off to the seller, he'll have it by Monday and he says that the set-up is already all packed up and ready to go.

Still seams like a silly thing to stick on a VW, but I sorta think that the 'cool factor" of that weirdness in an Outlaw Pre-A coupe . . .

Well, gotta count for something, maybe?
In the old "How to hotrod VW engines" book, there is a similar setup using a Weber progressive mated with a large funnel to a stock sized manifold going into the dual port manifold flanges, and a footnote that reads "this made less power than stock".
You can stick a huge carb on a big funnel however look at the size of the pea shooter manifold under that big carb & funnel.
That setup looks like a complete waste of money, just buy a set of dual 40's or 44's,instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.
It is like trying to run while breathing through a straw!
