oohh the anticipation! Nice color choice.
X2 on the color. Love it!!! Motor and trans specs?
I really like that color. That is going to be one beautiful car Chris.
Thanks all!
I had a hard time deciding on a color. Now seeing the body in paint, I'm very happy with my choice. And also now, the anticipation is at an all time high. I'm really looking forward to finished car.
ALB, originally I was going to go with JPS's base model, but after some good advice from this group, I'm having JPS's "high grade" model built. The engine will be a 2110cc with an HD trans.

The Black Saddle with a Dark Green trim would be cool
Oh-LA-LA !!!
I'm envious!
Thanks for the interior color suggestions Marty. That too has been a difficult decision. I settled on 'cork' which is a medium brown. The cork seats, with tan carpet, and the auratium green should looks good together.
Let me just say, I am so very glad I decided to do this. Making these choices, and watching your car come together, is an amazing experience. So much fun!
Hi Chris,
I saw your car last Saturday while visiting John. Are you going to come down to check it out before he finish it?
Eddy
Hi Eddy,
The current plan is to wait until she is done, then fly out and drive her home to Texas. As much as I would like to see the build in progress, I feel the money towards flight and rental car would be better spent on accessories / etc for the Coupe.
Anytime you visit John, I'd greatly appreciate any updates / status reports / photos.
Thanks much!

Hi Chris,
When you come out here to pick up your car, you should see if anybody is up for a break in drive. I usually drive my coupe on the weekends on the hills of Santa Monica, Malibu, PCH.
It is always a good idea to drive the car a bit before you ship them home in case some things still needs to be fixed as it seems some thing always needs to be fixed when the car is brand new
I am not sure when I will go again to John, but if I do, I certainly will update you.
Eddy
GREAT COLOR CHRIS AND I AM GLAD U UPGRADED THAT ENEGINE CHOICE
I do plan to put on test miles in Cali before I drive to back to Texas. Once I know when I'll be flying to Cali, I'll post it here. I'd love to get a chance to do a run with your SoCal SOC'er. You all have some of the best roads in the world out there.

You won't be disappointed; like all cars, the fun factor goes up exponentially with more power!! How much is it to upgrade to the 2332? Any info on what they use for heads for the 2110 and 2332 motors? bigger valves? porting? The key to power in these things is in the heads...
Chris---just sensational. I am right up the road from you in Hot Springs, AR and maybe we can get together when you get that beauty home.
Eddy's coupe is gorgeous and he know a lot about these cars---same as Gerd so use theit input.
Being in the wide open spaces of Texas you will likely put some miles on that car. I'd consider
upgrading from a VW Bug engine to either a Subaru or Type IV engine. You will want dependability and grunt enough to have AC in your hot country. You will love it no matter what you decide, I am sure.
Who exactly is building the Type I engine you are thinking about now?
Another note--There was recently posted on here some pictures of a replica coupe that had some sort of chrome-looking material around the rear windows. I don't know much about it except it made the car look authentic as otherwise it will have a runner surround I think. If it's a permanent solution maybe consider it.
Last, I still thank John Steele for all his advice on waterproofing my VS when we were at Carlisle two years ago. He knows all the secrets about this and what he told me to do worked. My carpets are perfectly dry in the heaviest downpour. You have the advantage of a coupe so yours should be great in that area.
You made a great choice in the body style! I hope someone will post pictures as the build proceeds. Congrats, Chris!!
Hi Jack,
I'll definitely be interested in some road trips once I get my car. I've not explored AR at all (just moved to Texas in Feb), so that sounds like a good destination. We definitely need to get a "Middle USA" SOC event pulled together.
I have not asked John yet who will be building my engine. Will let you all know the detail specs once I have them.
CHRIS, VINCE AND I ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING YOUR ENGINE FOR JPS
Hey Cris, welcome to the madness!!!
Being in Austin your not far from the "Twisted Sisters" probably one of the best drives in Texas. And now that summer is over it's driving season. We picked our car up in feb. and drove home....beautifull weather all the way!
We're up in Gatesville but make it down to Austin often, let us know and we can get to gether for a drive.

Hi Jay,
Another central Texas SOC'er.. Awesome!
I have been exploring the many good roads of Texas Hill Country. There are quite a few!
Do let me know next time you are heading this way for a drive. I have a Boxster as my back up fun car until my Coupe is done. I'll PM you my #.
Chris
Hi Chris,
Was down Austin way for the last Blues on the Green...was a really HOT drive. We will be down again for the Patti Smith concert on the 16th of Oct. I'm sure we will be down early in the day .....so if your free on a week day maybe we could meet?
Our car is a VS 2 years old now. Just turned 20,000 miles after this summers trip to Mich. Great Car!!!!
Jay
Just curious, but who builds the JPS bodies? You know, the molds, the layup, the curing....all that. And is it done in a single lay-up or are there a few sections that get glassed together for the final product?
Thanks, Gordon

What are the 'A' and 'B' pillars made of? Just wondering about rollover strength.
chris it is really looking good
For the past several weeks, going to and from my daughter's new house, I have been driving by this used car dealer who has a bunch of old classics in his showroom and a 356A coupe tucked away in the corner. I think the color is "Arctic White" IIRC. Looks like Kelvinator white. Anyway, one of these days I have to stop and take a closer look....... THAT would be really cool, sitting in my garage. If only he isn't asking a bundle for it...
Curiosity got the best of me and I stopped in today. The 356A is not for sale, but is an original PanAmericana racer from the 1980's, owned by the father of the dealer, who is storing it in the showroom for the winter. Really decent shape, although I'm sure it has been updated from time to time.
Oh well, someday a coupe will fall in my lap.
freggin awesome
