Hi. Im working on a 1965, 356C. Chassis no, 221231. The crank shaft seems to be butchered. It has a 616/15 engine.

1.Whats a good source for a good std crank shaft?

2. Is the 356 C crankshaft the same as the VW 1600 cc crankshaft?

The VW crank and the Porsche crank are not the same. Different stroke and different rod bearing size(Porsche 53mm VW 55mm) among other things.

VW cranks of any stroke from 69 to 86mm are readily available.

Not so much for the 356. Sorry, I don't know of any sources to give you.

I'd check on the SAMBA 356 classifieds. I'm sure not 'cheap" like a 69mm VW crank - looks like $200-$1000 so not too bad.

I believe Scat makes new replacement cranks for 356's. They are not cheap but are great.
