I am looking for a speedster that has been hit to use as a project to rebuild. If you have a speedster with major damage to the fiberglass and is too costly to repair, that is the car for me. I will consider cars with smashed nose, rear-ended, wrecked doors, hood, etc... hopefully the car will have an intact windshield and be complete other than the damaged area(s). If you have a crashed, totaled, or burned speedster please contact me with price and pictures if possible. amaher111 AT hotmail.com

Don't laugh, I am in the process of messing with a guy who is trying to scam me now. So far he has went as far as sending me a company check for $2300 more than my asking price on my Vette. He is wanting me to deposit the check and send the extra $2300 to the shipper of his choice. Can't see that happening. Everything points at it being a scam, so I am planning to turn the whole thing on him.
Haven't seen any of the news shows on it. This guy is a real winner. He sent me a check from a business in Tampa, FL. The Fed-Ex tracking number showed that the check shipped overnight from Illinois. The return address on the Fed-Ex mailer was from New York. The name on the return address was of an author who writes investment books for a college in Florida. This name, the signature on the check or the name the guy goes by in the e-mails is the same. He has called me once, but my caller id shows "no number". I am sure that some agency should be able to trace the call through my phone records.
So far, he acts like he has found the perfect sucker to steal money from. If he only knew the ride he is about to take........
I don't know what caused you guys to jump to conclusions, but this is not a scam. I live in Wisconsin, near milwaukee and would like a crashed or burned speedster for repair, I would be willing to travel but not more than 800 miles, so anything on the west coast would be too far away for me to travel.(the last one I picked up was in PA and had the back end torched off in an engine fire) Actually if the right car comes up I would be willing to pay a transporter to bring it to me.
No tricks, no scams, I will show up with my truck and trailer with cash in hand. I am trying to figure out how my ad could possibly have looked like a scam or as inappropriate and I don't know what got all the roosters crowing, but hopefully this will clear it up.
Like I said in the first post, If you have a speedster with major body damage and have been told it is too expensive to fix, that is what I am looking for. The right candidate is a car that was complete, running and looked respectable until it was damaged. I will buy a car with collision damage, an engine fire, or even that has been in a garage fire. I do not want stripped down junk, the car should be complete except the damaged area(s). The ideal car will have the windshield intact. If you have a speedster that was totalled and is taking up space either email me amaher111 AT hotmail.com, or add your info to the naysayers in this post and I will contact you. Thanks in advance for any help. By the way Jim, I'm sure the check you were sent was a fake, it will probably clear the bank and then come back as counterfiet weeks later after your car is gone, I wouldn't cash it and wouldn't waste my time trying to contact the imaginary guy who signed it.
I was hoping to locate my next project but obviously this thread is a complete joke. As a 20 plus year fan of speedsters and VW enthusiast I was very happy to have found this site, that happiness was short lived. I can't believe the way some of you act towards others. Apparently being new to the sight is a BAD thing? this amazes me because I would think new members would be greated with excitement and enthusiasm and welcomed to the "club". Apparently it is a big sin to have a free hotmail account too? It is much more user friendly than my roadrunner account and I am comfortable using it, who would have guessed that would be a strike against me? Then the pictures of a burned out car and another reference to me being a scammer is made, not very original, didn't anyone have a picture of a mushroom cloud to post. I got into Vw's in the mid 80's and have attended many VW events over the years only to be continually amazed at the warmth and kindness of the VW community and the great people I have had the pleasure to meet. In comparison this site is disgusting. No help, nothing nice to say, just childish ridicule and accusations of a scam. I have dreamed of a speedster kit car since I first saw one, and joined your site in hopes of finding others who shared my passion for these wonderful little cars! Instead I found a barrel of monkeys laughing at me. I'll get over it but you need to live with yourselves. As far as being a "contributing member" is concerned, I would have been more than happy to contribute to a site that welcomed me. I don't know how you can accurately put a price on rudeness and belittlement.
Sorry, Aaron, but sometimes we go off on tangents, and it takes an act of Congress to get us back on track. I'm sorry the reception has soured you on this bunch of crazies, because we're actually nice folks.

I'll offer an olive branch by saying that you are certainly welcome to any of the gatherings discussed here. You'll learn a lot more face-to-face, and probably share a few brewskies as well.

As for a burned or damaged car, the only one I've heard of in a while is in the process of being rebuilt to its former glory. I'd shy away rom a seriously fire-damaged car due to heat-induced changes in the metal. What sort of project did you have in mind?
Seriously - damaged speedsters are hard to find. Your best bet is to buy a speedy that has been through the mill or a unfinished kit. I have bought several complete cars in the $6k ~$8k range and a couple unfinished for less than $4500. Like you, I always wanted one, every since I saw my first in an airport back in the 80's. Haven't ever seen a savable one for less than $3500 and the cheapest kit was $3100.

I gave $6000 for the red one picture and spent 1000 to ship it. After $400 and elbow grease you can see how it turned out.

What kind of $$$ do you want to spend?

Ben

I tried very hard to reach a settlement with the Insurance company of the person who hit me. I thought we were very close, and had only one issue to settle. I needed them to pay back my Insurance company for the car or put the subrogation in the settlement. They wouldn't, so we will be going to court at the end of the year.
Aaron, don't take it to heart. The school of sharks here are harmless. You shed a bit to much blood and that brought up the frenzy. These guys are really decent. Suggestion .. just look on Ebay ,Samba and surf the internet. You may not find a crash or burner ...though you might find an unfinished project someone has in their garage. Just ask Alan. I found my car surfing the net . Cost me $4500 and a trip to Baton Rouge La . Engine was junk ,interior white, pan poor and body decent shape. I just dumped way too much $$ into it.
Aaron, the most used greeting for newbies around here is: "Welcome to the madness".
There is a reason for that very popular greeting......... We pretty much, are all a bunch of light hearted knuckle heads that are dedicated to blowing off the steam of our "regular" lives.
Hang around, it ain't all that bad! If you're in to Speedy replicars, then this IS the place you need!
Trust me, I'm one of the most "politically correct" members around here and I have dearly paid the price for it. These guys will flame the hell out of you, but if you ever really need help, you can all ways count on 'em.
Best of luck, Ernie
BTW>>> Don't let Vince scare ya off.... He really is human (I think)

O'Black from Chilliwack still has his 84IM, now stored in its own portable garage. I haven't done any work on the car for months. I'm still not sure what I'll do with her. Some days I want to rebuild her and other days I want to sell her, or just part her out.
I recently went to IM's site and had a look at a few commissioned IMs Henry has listed. One 1990 IM was listed at $35,000! This gives me some incentive to get working on mine!

Hey Aaron A burned 356 might be to much work for you. maybe you can give wolfgang a finders fee on that avenger kit he found. I really think it would be right up your alley since you are a deprived VW Guy!!!********* OK OK OK Aaron really I want you to know, Im also new to this site maybe if you took more time to follow these guys around the site you would have understood where they were coming from. So just relax take a load off and enjoy their humor, its actually entertaining.
