OK, Power steering has been put to bed as a bad idea. Yesterday I went down to my barber shop here in Eagle Point and my Barber was ouside with a guy and his BMW 1200 motor cycle. My barber is a real cool gal. She has a Harley she has driven to Sturgis S.D. from Oregon and also has a Vette. This guy was showing all the gadgets on his bike. The one that caught my attention was the cruise control he had. He said it really helped his fingers and hands on the Interstates, he could flex them and prevent cramps. Not being a bike rider I kinda thought about us Speedster drivers and the leg cramps we sometime get after long sessions on the Interstate systems,(Yawn).
Has anyone seen or heard of a cruise control on a Speedster? Seems like it should work. If it works on a German bike it should work on a German car, even a replicar like we have.

a lot of bikes install a friction type finger clamp on the throttle
which can be overcome when needed. not so high tech.
ive installed aftermarket c.control before, very easy in a larger car
but it comes with an ugly vacuum module to actuate the throttle that
may be tought to hide in the eng. compartment---bruce
there are a bunch of generic cruise controls that can be made to work with our cars. you just have to design a bracket that will attach to the throttle at the engine and hook vacuum up to it. and dont forget the switch. (you could install one without a column switch but most come with something for a column mount).

there are also electronic/servo type cruises that are adaptable to most cars with electric speedos (not ours), however many installed experience surging speed/rpm that is not as steady as with the vacuum cruises.

its been about 4 years since they owned the place so my memory isnt great and im sure there might be new stuff out there

My family used to own an automotive aftermarket/stereo/repair/ac shop....
For those of us without enough manifold vacuum to run a vacuum-based cruise speed control, as Nic mentioned, there are all-electric alternatives.

Thumb through an issue of Street Rodder or Custom Car magazine to see what's out there that might be adapted. Some are fully electric and take their drive signal from the tach, while others need a speed sensor driven from the Speedo cable.
I am certain the Rostria Auto cruze can be adapted. I have one on my SS Elcamino that I installed. It's Surperb!.
I'd put the electro servo box up in the dash and make a cable pull chain kit at the foot feed, passing the pull cable out the front of the cab and back in just forward of the gas petal.and mount the pulse sender in the speedo cable at the back of the speedo.

The only thing that I don't like are the dash switches. I've been looking for somthing in the M.Benz line to adapt, that would look right at home in the 356s,but nothing as to date.

But if you see sumin that looks period 356ish , PLEASE! let me know. I have a kit on the shelf waiting to go in.
Everyone should go to a major street rod event at least once a year. The Good Guys show is one I would suggest. There is so much stuff out there just waiting to be adapted to ANY car it is amazing. All packaged and ready to go. Free catalogs and the whole nine yards. Companies that I've never seen advertise in any magazines give their catalogs (one inch thick) away only at these shows. The workmanship on the cars ain't too bad either!
