Cruise Control

Has anyone installed cruise control in their Speedster?
How did it work out?

Jay.... Danny Pip., Cory, myself and a few others use a judiciously placed "Cement Block"....

Lumbar support, cruise control, good heater, water tight cabin = MIATA. :-)

Problem with that, is my big ass feet ;)

Other than cruise control i've tried to keep it simple.
No heat....other than stock
No radio
We've been wet and will be again.
You gonna begrudge me a cruise control for those long straight stretches between twisties?
What about the GPS?

I rigged up a throttle cable that pulls my hex-bar style linkage open. It's for "warming the car up". I'd never, ever, under any circumstances consider using it as "hillbilly cruise-control", although it would work really, really well for that.

If you currently have dual carbs, you'll need an electronic speed control because yu can't easily get enough vacuum to make the servo work. The unit above has an electronic servo.

Stan, I confess, my "hand throttle" might have mistakenly been used as a cruise control. My mother did that once, just once......(Does anybody get the movie?)

Cruise Control? Got it. Was an option with mine. Some of us geezers need it for those long runs.

When I ordered the car I specified wide fives and drumskins. It actualy has lug nuts and not studs and nuts. Pretty standard for wide fives I think.

Make sure that you contact them and get the cable adapter to go from a VW (metric) to a GM (English) and back so that you can mount their speed sensor. Also, make sure they know what you're putting it into so they may be able to recommend an approach - they're pretty good in that regard. Normally, they have a special sensor that has a pickup on the driveshaft. Since you have no driveshaft that's accessible, you'll need to get the speed reference off of the speedo cable.

Rostra makes a real nice electro serveo unit that you can easyely adapt to it.

Id put it up front and run the pull cable to the foot feed from the front side.

then the pulse genorator can be hooked right to the speedo..

Id trade up on the dash switches and go custom from radio shack to make it hide on the dash.

I made my radio box a bit odd to make room above the radio for the 3 switches i wanted them with square chrome buttons.

the center switch would be a slide side to side on/off a mometary switch on both ends with chrome trim plate. but you could hide the switches under the dash on the left side of the colum.

I'm not sure, but I strongly suspect that Rostra makes the electric control for Dakota Digital.

Jay, you could go to Japan and get the geisha toe-curl treatment.
