Here is some information that may be useful , unlike our redneck buddy from the video..
Rostra use to make a real good electric servo kit that would easily be adapted to these cars pulse sensor would go behind the speedo The servo box out under the fuel tank and the cable would pull at the foot feed you would have to drill a hole through the forward wall in just the right spot to hook it up at the foot feed cable but very doable The control switches are a concern you woul have to have the dash switch kit that's offerd
BTW: the idea of attaching the actuator cable to the accelerator pedal sounds pretty Hokey to me - MUCH better to attach to the carb linkage by running another cable tube through the fan housing and bringing the cable through that. Clean, works well and looks like it's factory installed. You might have to get creative with the existing throttle cable linkage to allow for the second control, but after looking at my car that looks minor.
Works both ways the servo is plenty strong . The disadvantages of putting the servo and ( Brain Module)in the engine bay is OIL. HEAT. MOISTURE . and you have to route the pulse generator wire all the way back to the gauges and the brake wiring may require a interrupt switch at the brake petal. another long pair of wires.
At least put the module in a dry place. Rostra still offers a great 5 star
system
Hey Gordon, I agree with you about the cable at the accelerator in a pan-based car, or any Speedster that uses a stock VW type setup. But for any of us like me, who use a Morse cable, it might be a great solution. Not that I am planning on installing cruise any time soon!
I do have a hand throttle though and have used it on the interstate on the flats when my foot gets tired!! Don't tell me it's unsafe, I KNOW!
Earlier in life when pulling a trailer with my '90's Dodge w/0 cruise control I'd cut off a broken hockey stick and jamb it inbetween the gas pedal and the seat. You could easily tweak the speed by moving left to right etc along the front of the seat. Now, Speedster related...I did break a throttle cable on a dinner excursion in Christiansburg, Va last year on the way to Carlisle. I limped it back to the Hotel and Jack Crosby and Lane Anderson soon came to the rescue and put in a new cable before dark...thanks again guys ! Since then, I've been thinking of running a second cable direct from the carb, thru the rear bulkhead / firewall with a loop or something on it that the driver could use with his right hand. It would sit most of it's life, hopefully ignored, coiled up in the back seat area.
