Gearing up for the Big Do in SLO in two weeks. We'll be stopping in Monterey for a few days, before continuing down the coast.
Doing such a trip in an open car this time of year, you need to be ready for big temperature swings. At mid-day, it can be thirty degrees hotter in the central valley than on the coast.
If you want to beat the valley heat, you have to leave at o'dark thirty, when it could be in the fifties. Or in the forties and foggy, coming back.
So, how to keep She Who Is Perpetually Cold happy on such a trip?
Well, regulars here will probably recognize Troy Sloan's world famous Cruzin Windows from these photos:
The windows were made for top down motoring, to keep some of the wind out of your face, and, well, to just look cool, too.
But what if you fitted them with the top up? They were never meant to replace side curtains, so there's a gap between the windows and the top. But maybe that gap would let in some much needed ventilation when you're on the road for a few hours.
Well, I got a set and they do. Went for a test drive the other morning with the top up and, for me, they're just the thing for a chilly day, when you've got a four-hour drive ahead, some of which will be on the big, bad freeway, and all of which will be seated next to She Who Is Perpetually Cold.
Another plus is the view out - a whole lot clearer and less obstructed than with the side curtains.
